I finally splurged on an RCBS ChargeMaster 1500 Combo. The first time I used it, new out of the box, I noticed very strange behavior. While I'm going to try calling tech support, I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas.
I know load cells need time to warm up, so I let the scale warm up for several hours. I calibrated using both weights immediately before reloading. Checking it afterward, the scale was within 0.01 grams for each weight. Then I dispensed 42.6 grains Varget. The scale showed exactly 42.6 grains. At least until I open the plastic wind shield, and the weight increases by 0.1 to 0.2 grains. Now I have a second electronic scale, and I've tared it on a case. I fill the case, and weigh it. 43.1 to 43.2 grains. I pour the powder back into the ChargeMaster's pan, and weigh it. 43.1 to 43.2 grains.
I've repeated this several times, and each time it behaves similarly.
I'm stumped. How can powder gain at least half a grain after I open the door and take it out of the scale? Or is the scale reading low while dispensing, staying low after dispensing, but reading properly after I replace the pan?
