What’s everyones thoughts on barrel break in for Proof barrels? I’ve read their tech but I’ve heard it’s not needed and some say it takes longer. What’s everyone thoughts? This is my first Proof and I’d like to not F* it up.

3 then clean, 3 then clean, and 5 then clean doesn't seem all that time consuming. Christensen has it's break in lasting 50 rounds, doing 2 three shot groups between each cleaning. Other have a 1 shot then clean repeated 10 time and then 5 shot then clean for 4 times. it's those single shots between cleaning that I'd think are most time consuming.

I completely ignored all break in with both of my Proof barrels. In fact, I’m at 300 rounds with my latest one, and I’ve never cleaned it since before I shot it the first time. No problems with either. It is literally impossible to mess up your Proof, or any barrel for that matter, by not doing break in. The only logical reason to do break in, in my opinion, is to increase the chances that your barrel cleans easily. For what it’s worth, my Proof cleans as fast and easily as any other barrel I’ve ever owned, whether I did break in on them or not, and I haven’t seen anything from my new one to make me think it will be any different.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I think I’ll do the 1, 3, 3, 5, 10 break in... I think my gunsmith (Spartan Rifles) spun a great barrel and I hope to put some great animals down in the coming years.... if anybody in NorCal is looking for a smith Marc at Spartan is unreal!!! OCD doesn’t begin to describe his attention to detail.

Just make sure your bullets are clean.. lol
I put about 50 through mine before cleaning the first time then close to 100 more after. No issues, it cleaned up faster than any barrel I've had previously (1st proof I've owned).
