Have any of you with a background in PRS type shooting attended a Quantified Performance match and competed in the general purpose division?

I’m wondering if I’m going to be hating life, trying to compete with a 5.56 with a Gen 2 PST 1-6x after shooting with a 6.5cm and ffp scopes with tree reticles. Maybe it would suck but I think it would be a good shakedown of my AR as I have it equipped.

Yea, I think I’m going to put some arca on there for my bipod and just go see what happens. lol

I am a MD for QP in the SW. These matches are a ton of fun! GP is the largest division.

Have solid dope and wind on your gun before you compete. The positional stuff kills shooters that are not used to it. I watch shooters mag dump a 105 yard target off-hand because they have not done it before....Yes, standing unsupported is a skill and a QP performance test.

.223's are competitive with the right shooter. My last three matches I'll bet 70% were 223 guns, the rest 6 ARC and a few 6.5's CM/Grens.

Thank you! I guess they’re running two matches in WV this year and I want to try it out. Been doing PRS and rimfire for a while so I’m familiar with positional but I’m not good. I was torn on whether to put a bigger scope on the gun and do practical precision, but I think I’m going to run this 1-6 and see how it goes. Definitely need to order some match ammo and DOPE this rifle

A 1x6 can be competitive unless your MD likes really small targets =]

Shot a QP match with a suppressed Mock12 with a Trijicon 2-10 which put me in Practical Precision. The difference is just “sending it” until you hear impact vs PRS. Didn’t feel handicapped shooting 223. Their slogan is “Shoot fast, shoot far.”

This actually looks like a ton of fun… maybe I’m in the dark, but I’ve never heard of this before (which is hilarious because I recently squaded w/ Leuba & he didn’t mention it once in 2 days)

Yeah it’s basically a fast paced gas gun match with some equipment restrictions but unlimited rounds per stage. I think it was time + hits.

Yea I found those rules but they didn’t address the scope limitations in the other divisions. So I figured ask.

I got a sweet little 18” SPR w/ 18x razor G2 that needs to get used.

You’ll be in Practical Precision based on barrel length alone. You’re capped at using 20rd mags so I had 3 mags loaded each stage. Never needed the third mag though.

I don't want to be perceived as one of those people that are poaching folks from other matches, and I don't want to distract people from focusing on their game. Always happy to talk about it though, lol.

I’ll second that

I understand & appreciate your concern… but also a lot of us would love to hear about another form of LR match that we can shoot

I've been one of those guys mag dumping on the standing offhand stage. No. I don't practice it. The Marines I was shooting with on MCB Quantico did MUCH better, but then... they practice that stuff.

The biggest problem I've had (at least on Quantico) is seeing my misses. That little bullet, traveling that fast, against a background of trees? Where'd the round go?!

Do I have to run around and get sweaty or can fat guys do well at these too? Looks like fun, being able to run factory ammo and not worry about picking up brass would be nice. Can I run a D60 in a SR15 Mod 0?

@Magnitude

We made these matches to be an evaluation of midrange speed rifle shooting skills, not a fitness test. Physical fitness requirement is about a 2 of 10. If you can shoot a PRS match, you'll be fine.

D60 is legal in General Purpose and Open.

Thanks Jack.

I know they have these at Quanitico and Drew at WAR has something similar with the IWI gas gun series at the Geissele range up in PA. Is there a standard target package and round estimate? Like 100 targets with 3x ammo as a guide on how much to bring? Or just bring a whole case and figure it out?

I'm going to be driving down to FL next month and plan to check out the new Lawmans showroom. Last time I was down there it was under construction, but i got some sweet deals on lowers/uppers. Hopefully there are some goodies to pick up.

I don't really know anything about IWI or WAR matches, but for the QP series we generally do 8-10 stages, with most stages requiring 9-15 hits. Anticipate at least one stage that will require 21 hits. Most stages are unlimited (you can shoot as many rounds as you want), though some stages will be limited in either attempts per target or overall rounds fired, and occasionally a 100% accountability stage (hit or miss, move on). I'll usually bring 200 rounds per day of shooting, with extras for zero and data confirmation.

Lawmens is in full swing right now, plenty of guns (not KAC, lol), optics, and ammo.
