I bought this rifle storage rod system made by Liberty Safe, and just wanted to advise people to becarful to make sure they remove the rod from the barrel before they put the rifle in the case and head to the range. I made a mistake yesterday that could have cost me big. I went to the range yesterday and didn't realize I didn't pull the rod out of my rifle when I removed it from the safe. One reason (other than me being a dumb ass) is the outside diameter of my muzzle brake is about the same as the end of the rod which is black same as the muzzle brake. I had everything setup getting ready to get down behind the rifle and the gentleman next to me struck up a conversation so I was standing behind the rifle talking to him and noticed something didn't look right about the muzzle brake from behind and standing up it it looked like it had a extra baffle and that's when it hit me so I pulled it out and thanked the gentleman for keeping me from shooting because if it hadn't been for standing up talking to him I would have never noticed it. I know this has gotten long, but those damn things should be orange or yellow not black especially for dumbasses like me!

Added some pics to show just how easy it could be over looked..........

I have the same system and have always been concerned with the same thing. I tied a piece of orange survey tape to everyone of them for just that reason.

KSE that is probably a better idea than painting them I think that is what I will do. If I make a mistake with a orange flag hanging off the end of the barrel then I deserve what I get….LOL I was so pissed at myself yesterday I seriously thought about going home and throwing them all in the trash.

Yep, I was thinking of the Remove Before Flight red flags used on aircraft for things like pitot covers, etc. while I was reading your OP.

So glad you caught that thing first!!
