A succinct Representation of my thoughts on bore snakes along, with improper usage.
Rolling around in the bottom of the range bag, collecting dirt perhaps ?
It is polar opposite to the theory that cleaning is bad, in agreement with Dthomas. It’s like reading 2A. The last part makes CLEAR my intent.
Why with the boresnake?
You can easily pack a very nice full length high quality coated cleaning rod in your rifle case.
By the time you fish some string down your barrel, you could have just pulled the bolt, and nice and carefully run some cleaning patches or a brush down the barrel using your rod.

In many/ most Japanese bikes, yes. My 2004 Road Star 1700 is an example. This is why you never use car oil in those bikes, due to friction modifiers that negatively effect the clutch. Motorcycle oil does not have these additives.
Because when I'm out in the field in wet, mucky conditions and busting through dense brush it's nice to be able to make sure the bore is free of debris and get light a coat of oil on. It's kind of awkward to carry a rod with you in dense brush.
That said, I never use them to actually "clean" a rifle, and I don't use them on my nice rifles. I also don't drag my nice rifles through the crap either, so it all works out.

Exactly, bore snakes have their place. It is the care, feeding and improper usage that is problematic. Certainly not inspecting to see a knot present, would fall in that category......
Yeah, wet clutch in the same oil too. New oil feels much different than used. On a similar note, I know people who change their oil every ride.

Still that’s only needing a 7.5MOA to a 10.5MOA gun, I’d wager a PSA poverty pony AR pistol with a $50 alibaba scope could do that.
10” is still much larger than a deer head. I was poking fun just to do it. Not arguing with you.
This is what he needs the gun to do and it does it. Of course we all like tight little groups even on hunting rifles where they are hardly if ever needed and much harder to produce in field conditions anyhow.

DO NOT PUT DIRTY THINGS IN YOUR BARREL UNDER THE IMPRESSION YOU WILL END UP WITH A CLEAN BORE.
To do so in akin to wiping your ass with used toilet paper and hoping to to finish clean. You will finish with a mixture of different crap.
Proper cleaning is not push pull. Clean, unused patches are pushed from chamber to muzzle and removed from jag prior to pulling rod back.

So if you were to use a bore snake, you use a dirty bore snake?
I have a few I mostly use in pistols, I wash them after each session.
You know I've wondered if people that use boresnakes ever clean them and if so how.? Eventually its going to end up saturated in old cleaning solution and carbon, copper, lead or whatever crap was in the barrel.
I just hit mine with solvent if really needed, but mostly hit it with a pressure washer, seems to do the job enough for it to nicely clean a gun barrel, we ain’t talking rocket surgery.
I have something similar, screws onto different attachments, swab, patch, brush, though I think it has a metal cable but with a very thick shell of Teflon or something on it, kinda my rifle “bore snake”
Still I don’t see the issue with the bore snake, obviously clean your tools before you use your tools to clean

I aimed eyeball. I got eye ball. That's what I meant by canoeing. Hit the eye ball with deer broadside using a 180 grain nosler partition, takes the top/front of the head right off.
I've only fired 50 rounds through it since spending a week at Rifles Only. It was hitting good enough to take 2nd in our little end of week class "competition". It's not scientific, it's not gospel, but it works for me.
Turbotrout is just still mad about pvc pipe, apparently. Thinks a whitetail doe's head is 18", has 8" pex feeding his water faucets
I don't know while people get so upset about the cleaning topic. If I can still hit ten inch steel plates at 1000 yards, and I'm fine with it's performance, why does it matter?

Gotta be honest Mr Theis, I didnt read that as him calling out boresnakes or advising not to use them. Seems he was more doing a PSA to let us know hes a complete Tool for his mistake. (his words, we all make mistakes and hope we learn from them).
Anyways OP glad you figured it out, Ive def made dumb mistakes being a backwoods gunsmith. And I like you, tend to sleep on my mistakes before I play operation. Ive more than once, fucked something up, got mad, and in my anger tried a equally dumb fix and made it worse.

Look man I dont use dirty toilet paper. EVER. I flip the wad over and wipe with the clean side. and than change the fold and use the new clean side. seriously modern problems require modern solutions.....

Maybe your k80 is more resistant to plastic build up than my Cynergy. Build up for me starts around the ports and most dramatically on the Diana choke tubes. It definitely results in noticeable increases in misses for me at least by ~2k shells. I guess I have never really patterned it when it's all fouled up too see how things have changed on paper. I've just noticed lower scores which could certainly be from just having a tighter pattern. Around that time, after having a particularly bad day I typically scrub it all out and blame the filth for everything that went wrong. Seems to work at least psychologically, I always have a good day next league night with bright shiny tubes. You've certainly got me on rounds per year and experience as I think I was only doing about 4k a year at my peak. Now I am starting to wonder if it is in my head or perhaps those guns don't build up as bad as my browning does.

The first 51mm are very clean. After that, in the skinny part, it's like a pepper shaker exploded!

I guess, just seems like a simple tool for a simple task, but not cleaning the cleaning tool is like washing dirty clothes in dirty water and blaming the washer
