Panhandle of FLA
Just picked up an PAS AR and the upper has the cocking handle on the side of the upper.{side charging }
My question is, is this upper suitable for a "build", either a heavy{ 20-24" 223 barrel } or possibly a 6 CAR [ when brass becomes available again]
OR, just leave it as is as "trade fodder" ??

Thank you

My side charging up (not a PSA) has the charging handle screwed into the bolt, so it only works with the bolt it came with.

Not really enough details though to help you out. Did you not know what you were buying? Does it have a bolt? Pictures maybe?

I don't see why it wouldn't work? Or what exactly are you asking?

Thank you, The main reason I traded was for a "no paper work" weapon.
This bolt is the same as yours with the handle screwed into the bolt.
First, I need to take this to the range and see how it does at 300 & 500 yds .
I've read some on here and other places on what others have said about the "stiffness" of different uppers, but no one commented to saying XYZ or any other brand of upper is better for a precision build .
If this weapon turns out to be only good for killing zombies at 50 Ft. I'll pick up a good barrel and see if that will get MOA groups out at 300 yds..
Again ,
thank you

As long as it fits together without issue I can't imagine it'd be any different than any other upper. Basic fitment will be fine given you have a quality barrel. IF you're trying to squeeze every ounce of accuracy, then think about the top tier options with extra rigidity built in, but thats a more costly option for a minimal gain in rigidity or possible accuracy.

For a reasonably accurate AR for fun, I only give a shit about 3 things for the most part: Barrel, LPK, Trigger. Provided the rest of the parts aren't messed up and they all fit together nicely and are of at least minimum quality.

Your charging handles screw into the carrier, not the bolt.
Ya ya that's what I meant

I would say that the ultimate precision of a side charger is theoretically less than a regular charge handle as the reciprocating mass of the side charger is not axially balanced and the regular one is. Having said that, I have several side charging AR rifles and they shoot as well as the barrel and trigger will let them. The difference is not detectable to me. My AR 10 in 260 Rem AI can and has shot a 3 1/2" group at 650 yards. My AR 15 with a 16" pencil barrel is minute of plate at 200 yds (with a red dot).

I prefer the side charger as I don't have to come up off the rifle ( and sights) to manipulate the bolt, and I can build up the stock to fit my cheek and not be restricted by the charging handle's need to travel into my comb space.
