By the way, I’m new here and this is my first post so thanks for any and all advise.

I will be mounting the scope on a Remington 700 20” mounted in a Magpul stock. Just not sure if the newer ETR is worth waiting for. What would you do??!!

I'm waiting for the ETR. I've owned three Athlon scopes. One cronus, two Ares scopes. I just have one ares 2.5-15x50 left. I've been waiting for the right reticle. I may be switching to MILS for this scope? I have a PST gen 2 now. I think Athlon will exceed all expectations!

If you need a scope now , then by all means the pst. The gen 2 pst is a good scope for the money. I personally like mine alot. If the etr turns into a waiting game like pst2 did, that would really be a bummer. I'm sure the athlon will be a good scope and hopefully be delivered as advertised. Can't imagine you would be unhappy with either.

I'm looking forward to being able to compare the new Ares ETR to the original & BTR Cronus scopes I've got on hand. Based on how good the optical quality of both versions of the Cronus is, I'd be surprised if the ETR will match that, but am hoping the turret's clicks/detents will be a bit more distinct than the Cronus. Combine good glass with good clicks/detents & good tracking at that price point, and they will have a winner on their hands.

Ares ETR promises to be an excellent scope, but if you wait for the next best thing all the time, you will always be waiting. There is always something newer and better around the corner. If you need a scope now, buy a scope now choosing from currently available options..

Thanks fellas. I don’t have to have a scope today so I could wait on the ARES ETR if it’s expected to be better than the PST GEN 2. At that point I could decide between the two. I’m wanting to stay in this budget so the Cronus is a no go. Totally get the comment about waiting on the next big thing. Thanks again!!

I don't like being the guinea pig on new products, and try to avoid buying the first gen of anything. Buy the Vortex, then in a year or so check out the ETR after they work the bugs out.

I would think if you need one now go Vortex, if you're really set on the Athlon, wait for it, the reason is like what Frank said in the podcast a while back; initial runs are QC heavy -- like each one gets checked, then in subsequent runs they'll do batch testing (same as we do in the shop, first couple articles of a new program are QCd to death, then maybe every 10th or so). But at the same time we're told bit to swing on the first pitch or buy the first model year of a new car...

For now buy a used Cronus or BTR, it's got the Gold warranty if anything goes wrong. They can be had for the same price as what a new ETR is going to go for.

Heck buy a used PST2 and see how you like it, resell it with little loss if it wasn't what you thought it should be.

I used to do this kind of thing quite a bit for the experience. It helped me finalize what I did and didn't like about tactical scopes, their features and especially reticles.

That's a good advice.
