So after much thought I ordered a vortex viper PST 6-24x50 mil-mil.
Sfp. I think for my uses of this rifle Sfp is the best choice for me.
This is my first vortex purchase. I hope I am not disappointed. All the reviews look great.
This scope will be going on a remington 700 5r tactical with a b&c stock.
Can't wait for it to show up. Anyone have this combo?
Any advice on rings/base?

Well even though optics planet said it was in stock I got an email that it was backordered. Canceled the order. We will see how long it takes them to get my money back in my account.

You will pleased with your choice. Optics Planet usually good about refunds quickly, if out of stock. However, I feel you should have never been charged unless the product in stock and ready to ship. I find that is usually the norm, unless you're having something custom built. Good luck and get out and shoot and then you'll know exactly what will fit your needs the best!

If you can "settle" for FFP, I'd jump on that CamerLandNY deal.
Great folks to deal with.
I get it, some people prefer SFP, some can't justify/afford the FFP model, but I think it's worth the downsides (extra $$$, reticle thickness issues).

I run a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP on my .300 winmag and it's great. It's worth hunting one down for sure.

Do you have a muzzle break installed on your 300? On another post I am now hearing the pst's are not built for the "foward" recoil a magnum rifle with a break produces. ?? Seems its breaking the rectical loose on some units. I talked to my gunsmith today about installing a precision armament muzzle break. Now I'm worried. Should I not have the break installed? Am I being fooled into believing this is a rugged quality product? Should I just spend double on a lupy mark 4? Or am I getting worried over isolated incidents? Guess this is directed at everyone.

same boat. just picked up a 6-24x50 ffp pst. was going to put a muzzle break on my 308. now not so sure. mostly all i read for reviews were very positive. I chose this over the swfa 5-20x50 hd and sightron siii. mainly because of the cost savings and features. good thing theres a good warranty!! if i ever need it i guess. hopefully there in it for the long haul. this is def the nicest scope ive ever owned. next best would be the nikon monarch 4-16x42. Never thought id spend this much on a scope lol
check out midwayusa.com they had some pst's in stock the other day. i prefer them over opticsplanet. i have had not such great luck with opticsplanet. usually end up ok but its aggravating.

Well I called vortex and spoke with them about this very problem(magnum rifle with a break breaking the scope). He has actually read these posts and is familiar with the topics discussed about this problem. While I am still a rookie and learning as I go this gentleman assures me that this is not a common problem. I am not saying its impossible or even that its improbable but I also understand that a few incidents don't make a product line defective. I believe that this gentleman is being sincere in his statements and I'm going to go ahead with my purchase of a vortex. I will give updates as to the performance of the scope for anyone who is interested. Thanks to everyone who has replied and given their honest opinion! I learn more everytime I am introduced to a new perspective or correction of my flawed logic. Btw still no refund from optics planet. But in fairness it has only been 2 business days and they said 1-3.

right now optics planet has my pist off! i bought a nikon monarch 3 4-16x42 from them. tried to cancel about 10 minutes later and they said they couldn't because its already being shipped. my a$$! they say they will pay the shipping back so i say great. scope finally arrives at post office. i grap it and slap on the pre paid label and send it back. this was on Tuesday august 27th. fed ex's tracking number hasn't updated since September 4th. well i called optics planet last weekend and i get told they received the scope and the refund will be shortly. well i called them monday to see how much longer. i get told they have not received the scope. i call fed ex and get told the scope was delivered on the 4th. so i call optics planet and get told to give her a few days. phew am i mad!! to top it off today i received the weaver 20 moa mount i ordered august 25th and theres a nice gouge out of the side and only 3 screws were included instead of 4!. I decided to go through weaver about this and its sounding like they will take care of it no problems. hopefully i get my refund soon and you do to! good luck with your vortex scope!!! i really like mine so far

Hahaha a salesman being "sincere"! I needed a laugh this morning. But for real I have a brake on my 308 and I run a vortex hs. Been on for about 2a yrs and have not had an issue. Its a wire reticle though, I would have thought an etched reticle would not have any issues. Every time someone recommends vortex they follow up with how they have a great warranty and when they had to send their scope(s) back the cs was outstanding ........

Great scopes, cameralandny has the FFP model for $799 on Deal of the day. Lotta scope for the money.

Well I called camera land and got a ffp 6-24x50 PST for $799. Thanks for the tip! Now I hope I don't have the bad luck some people are having with these scopes. Already got a tracking number!

Good deal, when I saw that price the other day it was all I could do to exsersize restraint and not order another great scope. I'm sure you'll dig it.

That's an awesome price! I traded my new bcm upper and 75 bucks. Ran me $975 all together. Was that new for that price? Mine was even his floor model at the gun show! Lol. I think you will enjoy the scope. No complaints on mine yet
