Just curious if any members have this model and what their thoughts on it are. I’m looking for my first thermal scope for first/late light hunting and night hunting hogs or yotes.

Night Vision Pulsar Thermion XP38

I have one .. selling it in the PX.
From my limited field use, it's a great unit and probably the best at it's price point. Great resolution for a 320 core'd unit. Picked up humans at several hundred yards in a hay field, walking, from bail to bail. Could almost ID them by the way they walked, based on unique characteristics. Pigs/Yotes won't be an issue to ID. It's got a very nice on/off/screen off feature allowing you to save battery between viewing locations. Batteries are super easy to swap in the field, something that's not so quick with other units. Video and photos are easy. There's an app that works for viewing when paired with your phone.
Overall it's a solid thermal scanner that competes well with any other 320 unit. In fact, the form factor is far better than most available units on the commercial market.

OP: The biggest advantage of the Thermion over the Trail models is the color palettes. The mounting options are different, but my Trail came with the upgraded QD mount.
Expect to be able to pick up heat signatures in excess of 1K yards, and be able to distinguish hogs and yotes from deer at about 400... The biggest challenge there is telling calves and hogs apart if you are in a pasture with cattle...but even the lower end Trails/Thermions (XQ/XM) can do this at about 250 yards. I hunt in my pastures with cows and have a lot of experience here along with good confidence that I'm not going to make a thousand dollar "uh-oh".
Pulsar products do not give the clrarity or resolution of a Trijicon or N-Vision...so of you can afford to jump up, I would.
And unless your shots are all going to be 50 yards and in start looking at something with a bit more magnification. Every time you double your digital magnification, you cut resolution in half...so that 150 yard shot with a Pulsar turns into a shot at a fuzzy signature.

Thanks for all the info. I’m going to have a hard enough time spending 3-4k so for now Pulsar is at the top of my list. As far as my shooting range, I’m guessing it’ll be from 40-250. I’ve watched so videos on the thermions, I love some of the features and that it looks like a traditional scope. I may look at some trail models also.
Look into the Trail XQ38 and Thermion XM38. For $3,200 The Trail XQ38 has some really nice features and gives you a very useable scope with great battery life...The only downside is field of view. Other than the color palettes and slight bump in native magnification, I don't see an advantage to the XM Thermion equivalent...so if everyone is sold out and you need it now, you're not losing much.
You can also find a new Pulsar RXQ30V still on Gunbroker for under $2K. That is the minimum in my opinion and I would not recommend it for hunting in pastures with calves.

My XM38 came in today and I put it on my Ruger ranch in 5,56
Took me 3 rounds to zero at 100 and was stacking rounds center plate after that.
So far it has worked great even when I was using it spotting out in the fields. My only complaint so far is the higher end magnification (field of view) 4-16x vs. 2-10x when using as a scanner.
Although it’s not really a complaint. It’s a scope not a scanner. I won’t have any problems shooting coyotes/foxes past 400 if I have to. I may upload some video if I get the chance this weekend.
So far I’m pleased.

About 13 months. I'll upgrade in a couple more years to a higher-end model. However, the Trail XQ38 gives you everything you need to be successful...it just doesn't compete with the $6K plus options in terms of FOV and resolution.

I have used my Thermion XM38 for a month now. All in all very satisfied with it.
After I uploaded the new firmware (with audio) the automatic calibration stopped working [ A ] I was in contact with Pulsar and they have more or less confirmed this FW error and informed that FW update will be ready this January. Did any of you Thermion users experience the same?
Another issue is the picture sometimes fluctuate. its becomming "greyish" all over for short moments, and I cant see the details in the cold parts (ground, soil, rocks) even the hot spots dissapears for short moments. What is this?
I am using white hot. Which reticle do you find the best for this setting?
