Putting it all together - is this right? Kestrel / Ballistic FTE

OK I have read Lindy's articles several times, I have read the Kestrel documents and made notes on each. I *think* I have my settings correct, and I think I have a handle on why I want to use G7 over G1 (I have read several posts on this), and I think I know what inputs to make on most of the Ballistic FTE input boxes. However, aside from velocity, wind speed, etc - I am confused about the following and want to make sure I have this right.

1. Chrono Rounds

2. Obtain correct G7 Drag BC for the bullet I am using

3. Set "Native Drag Model" and "Use Drag Model" to the same - G7

4. "Y intercept" ?????

5. "Zero Atmosphere" - this is from my notes when I chrono'ed the rounds and I want the density altitude and temp - right? And I will use this every time as a reference - right?

6. "Current Atmosphere" - this is the density altitude and temp at the time and place that I am shooting - right?

7. "Upwind Velocity" - is this asking for an updraft? How would I even know???

8. On the Kestrel altitude screen - leave the reference altitude set to “0” – such that I get station pressure

9. There is no need to check the internet for current baro reported at the airport before heading out.

10. There is no "real" need to check a topo or Google Earth for the altitude of where I am shooting such that I can plug that into the Kestrel Baro screen in order to get the correct Baro either - right?

Is this how to use these two devices? If not please tell me where I am off.

Thank you

Re: Putting all together - is this right? Kestrel / FT

You have the Kestrel settings correct. Leave the reference altitude in the BP screen set to zero.

Assuming the web page on the program is current, FTE does not use the concept of density altitude.

On the atmospheric data screen:

Enable Atmosphere and Standardize Pressure should both be off.

Set altitude to 0. With Standard Pressure off, the program should ignore that field, but it's best to be sure.

Enter the BP, temperature, and RH from the Kestrel.

I don't know what "Y Intercept" refers to in that program. The rest of your information appears to be correct.

from Ballistic FTE website:

"Y-Intercept: The desired drop (or rise) to compute at zero range. This is normally zero."
