I"m thinking of purchasing some PVS-14"s from TNVC in the near future. This will be my first set of NVG and have picked the PVS-14's due to their versatility. Other than mounting them on my 5.56, and 300 blk AR's I was thinking a Ruger 10/22 type receiver that has a 1913 picatinny rail milled into it. So has anyone used the PVS-14 in front of the Insight MRDS, and if so what mount will keep everything inline.

Thanks

First off, thank you for your consideration of our PVS-14's. Your PVS-14 will work best behind the MRDS, not in front. Also be sure to use the 1 NV setting the MRDS has to offer to insure no reticle burn of the red dot onto your 14. We really like the T1's or EO Techs a bit better than the Inisight units due to durability and NV settings they have to offer with the EO winning out with a bit better FOV for night ops.

As for mounts, our TM-14 with AP Twist base will get you lined up well, on top of that you can use any of the AP or EO Tech 3x day magnifiers with the AP mount. We also just released our new EO 3x mag mount as well if this interests you.

Victor, would a PVS-14 mounted behind an EoTech 512 cause tube burn? I find EoTech 512 or 516 on lowest setting isnt very bring at night. Never seen through a 55X or XPS3 though.

Also... How do you supposed to use the IR with the Eotech right in front of the PVS-14

General rule of thumb is any reticle you can see with your naked eye no matter how dim it appears is way too bright for a Gen 3 system. Do not use a 512 or any other RDS that does not have NV settings, you can and will burn an image on your tube.

As for IR use with the 14 behind the EO, it will not work due to the body housing obstruction of the EO. Also, the onboard IR on the 14 is very short range out to 8 feet or in. Works best indoors and for reading maps and such. For useful range work of 70 yards and in, the Surefires M1's work great. Out to 170 - 200 the SF Vampire type IR/Vis work great and beyond that our TNVC Torch Pro works very well out to 800m and close up with it's adjustable beam.

On the lowest setting of the 512, 516 or 517, they are not visible by naked eye and it seems to be ok under NV. However, the main problem my friend has is with the focus of the unit. All the 51X unit will be out of focus if objects are focus, and vice versa. Would getting a correct 55X unit or EXPS3 correct this?

How do night sights effect the view? Like on a handgun or AR front sight.

Handgun sights will not be in focus, since the target should be in focus. They will appear as large, fuzzy circles. A luminous front sight post on an Rifle or Shotgun, will appear the same. This is the reason that folks will typically use an Optic or, and IR Laser, to do their targeting.
