Night Vision PVS14 Identification help.

NV nube here. Wound up with a PVS14 as part of a bundle trade. No identifiers on unit other than Mod# EXPVS14D. PO claims Gen 4 with Excelis tube??(highly doubt). It has dual batteries(so probably old??) Appears in new condition with military case headgear, mounts, etc.. No spec sheet or paperwork. Anyway to identify? Is the D for dual batteries? If I remove battery compartment can I identify tube? Will I damage unit?

Fairly old unit. Do you really need to know what tube is in it? If you must, look on YouTube. The eyepiece is pretty easy to remove and see if there's a tube label in there. Otherwise, if it's functioning properly and you're satisfied with the performance, just leave it be.

Thanks for reply. Interest/curiosity more so than need I suppose. Appears to function, could make out that deer had antlers at about 75 yards with starlight only. Have not played with behind an optic.
Interest in knowing what it is in the event I pass it on to someone else. Would like to be able to accurately/honestly relay what it is. Don't need to know bad enough to damage or break it though. Will see what I can find on Youtube. Thanks again.

PVS-14’s are extremely simple and are easy to disassemble and reassemble. Just watch a couple of YT videos before you attempt it for the first time. It’s actually much simpler than building an AR lower, if that gives you an idea.

Just do it in a clean, low-humidity room with limited airborne dust. They come apart stupid-easy. Use a pair of cotton or latex gloves. Keep the tube optics and contacts clean and meticulously clean the inside of both housing lenses, avoiding the introduction of dust or debris.
