I traded into PWS 6.5 Creedmoor with a 18 inch barrel. I know that they are a long stroke piston rifle. My question is as I no nothing about piston AR platforms is can it be rebarreled as is or changed over to a DI rifle down the road if you shot the barrel out? Are the upper receivers different to a DI upper? Or would you have to send it back to PWS to have a new barrel installed?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    I don't own a piston system...
But the easy button would be buy a DI gas upper.
If not, just have to replace the barrel for a DI barrel , and a new bolt carrier group, a gas block, and gas tube. And it should all work.

    Dan,

PWS will take the upper and put a new barrel on it for you if you shoot it out. As far as replacing it with a different one, if you've got a shop local to you, you could take it in and see what they think. shouldn't be too hard to thread the barrel for the jam nut in front of the gas block. It's just got a bit different of a contour to it compared to a standard LR308 style barrel.

Any machinist/ gunsmith can replicate anything in metal. Turn a gas journal to any diameter ya want and bush or bore out any gas block ya want. Here is a .708" gas block dia the only one like it in the world, with a matching gas journal, cause that's where the Rem 700 used barrel cleaned up from fluting to make an ar 15 barrel, in obsolete 30RAR caliber, which works great and 1/2 " shooter.
A barrel can be profiled to any shape that's safe and usable.
Today's CNC it is just a simple program change.
Easy to do... for any machinist.
