Wanted to get an opinion on subs from my PWS MK111 Mod-2 7.62x39. Just got my suppressor (Q, Thunderchicken) and I wanted to try some subs.

Is the 1:10 twist is enough to stabilize and keep the 220gr subs out of the baffles, or is it sketchy/ not recommended?
Max grain weight for 1:10 twist at x39 11" barrel velocities?

Thinking about trying Atomic, Engel jackhammer. any other suggestions? Thanks.

Pretty funny I just stumbled on this I run the PWS MK116 with Thunder Chicken. Finally got a chance to take my time and dial in the Brown Bear 196g x39's last Friday and I am happy with them. I keep my 50 yard zero with Wolf HP 123g and then come up 3.4mils and it's bang on at 100 with elevation and misses are mostly windage, but it's under 2". Was so pleased I swung out to 200 IPSC and put it center chest and 7.5mils from my ballistics calc and bang bang one after another smidge low in the gut. There is another thread here somewhere with a guy who had a suppressed MK111 and shot the BB 196's and had great results too we PM'd quite a bit on the topic maybe he will see this and chime in. Gonna get some MV on them Wednesday will update. My dad will go ape with these and I'm going to use them in the tree popping varmints for 'boredom suppression'. Putting in a big order for them today. You might have some cycling issues on the 111....the other Hider called PWS and they sent him a buffer spring and that solved it. I run my supers on setting 3 lowest gas with Thunder Chicken on 16"....perfect. With the BB I have to go to setting 1 to get 100% cycling....on 2 it's intermittent.

I had tried the Atomic 220's and Detroit Ammo 220's last year and they were great to about 55 yards then went from 1" to about 4" at 75 yards. Couldn't even hit an IPSC at 100 with them more than 3 in 10 and it's just luck. And regarding stabilizing 220's in 1:10.....I keyhole checked b/f shooting through my can and didn't have any bad paper signs. I've seen 300 shoot 220's great in the PWS with 1:8, but as you know their x39 comes in a 1:10. If you have not shot any of the Wolf Polyformance HP 123 get some you will be shocked at the accuracy.....good varmint too piled trailers full of hogs with it. I believe BB developed this subsonic round for the AK which generally has a 1:9.5 if you watch AK Operators they had great success all around with it....not surprising the PWS will poke em well enough.

I have been hand loading sub sonic cycling 762x39 for years ...I knew a guy making sub x39 and selling them ..but Detroit ammo co 220gr x39 works well
What twist rate and bullet weight you using? Man I struggled past 50 yards with 220's in both flavors.....100 yards was like blind horshoes! The 196's are really nice in the 1:10 so far. If you don't mind sharing what can you reload subs for? Thanks

Well to be honest I never took the subs past 50 yards ..the 225gr noe .311 mold works great in x39..but I used to run 174gr with 14grs of cfe..and worked well in aks
Ah ok gotcha thanks. I was talking with a buddy who is a reloadin fool and I don't think I can do it for less than I can buy the BB for so probably just pony up the orders for now. Thank you

I recently went through this trouble shooting issue with my MK111 7.62x39. I was originally running a Geisselle Super 42 buffer and spring. It was too much spring pressure to properly cycle the action with the Brown Bear subsonics. I was also running a Surefire 762RC2 and the internal porting of the SF can was also not creating enough back pressure to reliably cycle it. I swapped buffers and springs to a standard carbine system and that helped a bunch. But, was still getting random failures to cycle all the way back enough to pick up the next round. I borrowed a friends SF 300sps that has much more back pressure and it ran well.
