I just ordered a Savage .260 im looking to order a new scope for it. Ive been looking real hard at the NightForce NXS 5.5-22x56 High Speed Zero Stop Turrets. Im trying to decide between the np-r2 mil-dot and mlr problem is that there is no body around here that carries these scope. I like a fine cross hair so i was wondering how fine the cross hair is are they thick or fine? This gun will be my hunter and distance shooter.

If you're looking at the NP-R2, you should consider the NP-R1 first. I have the NP-R2 and I'm sending my NXS in to have the reticle changed to the NP-R1.

Get the NP-R1. Cross hairs are PERFECT. You can't go wrong with that setup. You will be VERY pleased I would think. I am.

did you just say NP-R2 Mil-Dot or MLR?
NP-R2 is MOA, MLR is Mil, better be sure what system you want to get first before choosing a reticle.

One more thing. If you are going with MLR (mil), make sure you get the matching turret (mil). Trust me, you will be thankful that you did.

Again, MOA and Mil are two different system, decide which system you want before you choose reticle.

i run the npr2 hunting, the npr1 is a little better for ranging imho, but a little busy for me personally, at least for hunting

yeah i see what you are saying. guess i will just have to order it and see for myself. I do understand one is MOA and one is MIL thanks for the concern. Just not sure which way i want to go just yet, although i do have MIL scopes and will more then likly stick with that as to not confuse matters.

If you want MOA then I recomend the R-2. The R-1 is too busy for my tastes.
If you are interested in a MIl reticle then I suggest the Nightfore Mil Dot reticle with the see through 1/4 Mil circles
Match the turret to the reticle and you are GTG

That's a pretty exensive experiment if you are not happy with your decision.
FWIW I bought a NXS in MLR mil/mil then found a smoking deal on a Mildot moa/moa. I couldn't pass on it. What I found is I wanted scopes that matched. Moving from mil to moa and back was a pain. There are those that can easily do this but it wasn't for me. End result, the Mildot moa/moa went up for sale and a matching MLR mil/mil was purchased. Unintentionally this will work to my advantage as it going onto the wifes Christmas present (Remy 5R milspec). I'll be able to spot for her and give her feedback that she will understand. I shoot with a buddy that just purchased a NP-R1. When I tell him to shift 1.3 mils left it's going to be tough for him to do without converting to moa. What I'm getting at is, what will those shooting with you be using? Not that they should determine your choice.
BTW, I didn't see any visible difference between line width when viewing the MLR next to the NP-R1. They both have fine lines.
See of you can find someone in your area that have the scopes that interest you and get them in your hands. View them for yourself.

I'm not a big fan of the NPR1 or NPR2 but they will do the job and do it will. I'm a fan of MIL on MIL scopes.
I would recommend the Nightforce 5.5-22x50mm with the MLR RET hand Hi-Speed 0-Stop turrets.

NP-R1 has become my favorite reticle. It is fine, but I have no trouble seeing it and using the reticle for windage holds and elevation holds occassionally.

I really, really like the 5-22 npr1 moa hispeed zero stop. It is the best scope I have ever used(that includes Premier 5-25 ,many Leupolds and 12-42 nxs, 3-15 nxs and 5-22 nxs non zero stop) One thing I would do differently if I were you is go with the 50mm. It sits lower to the rifle, and having had 50 and 56 and shot quite a bit in lowlight I cannot tell any difference(your mileage may vary)
You would be making a huge mistake if you do not get the hi speed turrets (regardless of wether you go mil on mil, moa on mil or, my preference moa on moa)

i just picked up my nxs 5.5x22x56 high speed o-stop np-r1 from the post office today, absolutely love it, no camparison to my other rifle scopes, not overly busy for my liking and crosshairs are pretty thin(also when illuminated) now just need to get out and sight the thing in and eagerly await my jae stock

I have compared the 50 and 56 and see no difference I think they say it adds 15 minutes more to your hunting/shooting day at dusk, but for 15 minutes more I don't see a reason to get a bigger scope. I think the 56 gives it that oversized space telescope look personally.
