I have a question about clipons. Does the device, such as a pvs22 need to be a certain distance from the muzzle to protect the objective(?) end of the device. I have a couple of rifles that put the muzzle within a few inches of my clipon. Any advice would be appreciated.
With modern day Autogated power supplies, the flash and unburnt powder may cause momentary whiteness to be seen based on ammo used as well, but no harm from the flashes themselves. Of course a sound suppressor is the best of the best flash suppressor out there.
I have also seen some ported barrels (muzzle break things) cause gas that have dirtied the objective lenses of the 22's mounted close but no damage. Shooting these types also cause the momentary blindness I described above for a 1/2 second or so and more so with semi auto gas guns with repeated rapid fire no flash suppression. In these cases, the un-burnt powder is usually the culprit with short/er barrels.
