I have one coming on the way, and to determine what rings I need, I need to know the measurement of the outside diameter of the objective housing.

Can someone give me a measurement?

TIA

Low or med depending on if your going to run BC caps, how high your base is and the contour of your barrel.

I would go low and if its too low send it back and buy med.

30mm tube I assume?

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

I appreciate the ring suggestions, but here is the deal.

The tube size doesn't matter. I have a ST-10 with the 44mm ERGO in USO Lows and there is 1/8th of an inch clearance using a Stiller 20MOA base on a Stiller TAC 30 with a Kreiger #18 Heavy Varmint Contour barrel. The TPAL will replace it. Like the ST-10, the TPAL is a 30mm tube.

The USO Lows are a .990 inch ring. The USO Super Lows are a .880 ring. If the 44mm TPAL is any smaller in diameter than the 44mm ERGO then I can use the Extra Low rings. If its larger (which it shouldn't be) I may have to go to mediums.

That being said, can someone hook me up with a measurement of the outside diameter of the objective of a 44mm TPAL? It doesn't matter if its a 30mm, 34mm or 35mm main tube. They all have the same outside diameter objective size, I just need to know what it is so I can compare it with my 44mm ERGO and see if there is enough of a difference that I can run the Extra Low rings.

EDIT: The 44mm ERGO is 2.433 inches across at the knurling (widest part). For the people OCONUS, thats 61.79mm.

The Objective on the T-Pal is smaller than the Egro for sure! So if you have 1/8" clearance now with the ergo and low rings, Super lows and T-Pal 44mm will work for sure!

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

That's what I thought, but was looking for some hard numbers to support my assumptions. I've never actually seen a TPAL in person, believe it or not.

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

Call USO and talk to one of the techs and they will tell you for sure, but If you have 1/8" of clearance with USO lows with a ERGO, you will clear a 44mm TPal with out issue with the super lows.

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

Not exactly what you asked and hope this helps but here is the clearance of mine with BO low rings. Had to Dremel the cap to get room. The 4" sunshade should give enough clearance without shaving down the cap by extending further into the barrel contour. Or, medium rings but I was told this combo would work at time of ordering and yes it does, good fat cheek roll weld being this low.

45.308, thanks for the picture. I do have a couple questions for you.
1. Do you know the height of the BO rings?
2. Are their lows the same as a USO low or the extra low?
3. What barrel contour are you running?
4. Is it a 30mm tube?
5. Can you mic the diameter on the objective of your TPAL?

USMCj, I thought the exact same thing, to call them that is. But I figured with SHOT going on, most of them were probably there. My stupid objective size question was nothing to bother the "rear detachment" about, thats for sure!

But I will call them on Monday if I can't figure it out today.

Thanks for the replies.

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

Original ERG0=2.433 OD
TPAL OD=2.240

2.433-2.240=.193 differnce in diameter between them.

Divide that in half,
.193/2=.096

I already have .125 clearance with the ERGO and .990 Low rings.

Soooo... The difference in OD (.096) plus the clearance I have (.990) I come up with .221.
.096+.125=.221 total difference

Low rings .990
Super low .880
Difference of .110

Since the differnce in ring height is .110 and I have a new total clearance of .221 with the TPAL, I should be able to run super low rings and not have any clearance issues. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

I would run the .880 rings with 44 Tpal, if my USO works with .823 BO you will have no issues. BO at .885 would allow the BC cap to fit. My BC caps Dremeled to half thickness .09 to .04 to fit and must sit perfect on the area I Dremeled to give clearance, its close.

I wanted my scope as close as possible without touching and the .823 is what was recommended that would fit as close as possible. Yep, George was correct but if I ever get new, will go with the .885 - be more specific, did not say anything about BC caps.

Re: Question for guys with 3.2-17x44m USO TPAL

Yeah, I didn't take the caps in account. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'll order a set of .880s.

Again, thanks for your help.
