I changed back to the supplied AI 300 Win Mag barrel for the first time since changing it out for my Dave Tooley 300 PRC barrel. I've threaded the 300 wm barrel on then tightened all the way. Torqued to 49 in lbs and the supplied muzzle brake on the AI barrel is tilted to about 12:30? I thought it would tighten back down to perfect timing of the muzzle brake. Am I incorrect? What should I do? I have checked and the barrel is threaded all of the way with no gap in the barrel flange inspection slot. Thanks for any advice.

You are incorrect, the barrels are not indexed. Shoulder the barrel, and tighten the quickloc screw.

Loosen the muzzle brake and index it yourself.

Thanks so very much Supersubes. Done and done. I appreciate the help.
Did you buy this gun new? Had you removed and replaced that barrel previously, and did it index then?

Reason I ask is some people torque the barrel slightly when they install them, either by using a wrench across the flats, or an actual torque wrench, which would change the index slightly vs. just spinning on by hand.

Also, i found that the muzzle brake would blow dirt and debris into the hand guard near the breech. So if I just unscrew the barrel with the rifle on its butt, all that debris is now sitting in the face of the receiver. Screwing the new barrel on top of that would mess with the the index, the zero, and accuracy. Just something to think about.

I have not replaced and indexed this barrel previously. I have been shooting the 300 PRC barrel since removing the AI 300 wm barrel for the first time. I only hand tightened the barrel. I did just remove the barrel check for debris and replace the barrel. hand tighten it, torque the barrel clamping screw, and the muzzle brake indexed perfectly. That is, to where I indexed it after your first reply. Thank you!
