Ok after a search with both engines and reading through some posts on here i still have a question.

I am loading for my 308 and every1 outta 12-15 rds has a flattened primer. The charge is not over the max charge as per Lymans most recent manual. What does the flattening of the primer mean? Also what other pressure signs show that the load is to hot? Should i be worried about the occassional flattened primer and what else should i look for?

My two go to loads flatten primers ocassionally here they are

175 SMK
Win Brass
CCI BR2 primer
41.5 IMR 4895
2.800 OAL

155 SMK/Scenars
Win Brass
CCI BR2
43.9 Benchmark or 45.7 IMR 4064
2.815 OAL

any help or insight would be appreciated

Re: Question involving Pressure signs

Honestly 0311, I was getting flattened primers with every powder charge I used with the rifle you saw me shoot with previously. I'm also using CCI BR2s so maybe they are just soft. I ended up watching ejector dents on the case rim, bolt swipe, and sticky bolt lift.

Sticky bolt lift is definitely not where you want to be (I started getting some at 47.2grs of Varget). Ejector dents I had pretty much the whole way through with my Lapua brass. Most were barely noticeable but some (up in the 47+grs of Varget range) were almost completely erasing the headstamps.

In the end, I don't think watching the CCI BR2 for pressure is going to be helpful unless you start seeing crattering.
