I was on gunbroker and saw some very detailed pics of the Kimber 82 that was made for a govt trainer. The wood an metal look very good quality. In one picture it shows the bolt open and the chamber area. Looks to have some sort of single shot tray that may be removable? There are other non-govt 82's out there with a magazine. Is this funnel looking tray easy to remove and turn into a mag fed bolt action? Of coarse nothing is real simple but maybe the pocket is there and I wont have to machine it out.

The load ramp is easily removable but the receiver is not inleted. You would have to machine out the bottom of the reciever to make it magazine fed and I believe the receiver is hardened 4140 steel. However, it is my understanding that the trigger unit for the 82 of Kimber of Oregon hunting repeaters can interface correctly with the 82g bolt provided that all that alteration is done and that you manage to find a magazine fed trigger housing for sale. I actually plan on doing all of this to one of mine because I like it so much and I also like tinkering projects. I have been overhauling the stock substantially anyway adding an adjustable cheek piece and 4 way butt pad. I think that in order to do this modification you will need an end mill and you will have to remove the barrel. Several different precision machining operations are necessary to make the switch. Unless you are very handy you would probably come out ahead both cost wise and quality wise with and Anschutz 64 MPR.

That is the info I was looking to hear. I have a full CNC shop here for my bussiness and was thinking of buying the PTG 40X bolt and building my own action but I really like the looks of the Kimber and when I saw the little load ramp was removable I thought it would save a lot of time to start with the Kimber. I see there is some Kimber .22 cal trigger housings with mag feed on gunbroker right now. He has a ton of Kimber 82 stuff. Looks like a good start.
On another note, How do you like the quality of the Kimber? Better than a CZ right? Nice butter like bolt that does not flop around too loose? I just got a Sako P94S and like the feel of it. Makes my CZ feel sloppy.

I talk a lot about the 82g on this thread:

I wouldn't say the the engineering is as good as the CZ but the fit and finish is far better. The CZ is rather rough but the Kimber is quite well finished using better materials as well.
