Questions about Custom Finishing

I think I may want to take a jump and have my rifle custom painted in some for of camo, but I would like to ak a few questions first.

Does anyone have any reputable suggestions?

What ballpark am I looking at to get the whole deal done from stock to barreled action to bipod to scope/mount/rings. The whole schmeal. Obviously it will depend on many factors, but I'm looking for an average figure. I'd some form of woodland camo, perhaps even digital.

How long does this process usually take?

How does a full custom paint job affect resale value of a gun? I'd like to customize this rifle as it is what I have right now, but not if the resale value goes down the tubes because of a paint job.

I strongly suggest you forgo the camo on the entire rifle to match. If you do you own it, or the value will go down unless someone likes your camo job.

Camo the stock and do the metal in a single color. Don't even think about painting the scope unless you plan on keeping it forever for the same resale value issue.

As for time it all depends. Digital camo is very time consuming and can take awhile. Some other camo patterns not so long and if you are doing camo on just the stock and single color on the barreled action even less time depending on the back log.

I was imagining the resale value going out with the gun to be painted, yet getting lost on the return trip.

Right now I have an LTR with the PST083 Tactical Thumbhole Stock with adjustable cheekpiece and LOP. All of it is flat black, and while I do like the look of the black, I can forget any sort of concealment unless at night, and even then it would likely look like some sort of black hole in the woods, hence the want for a camo job.

Thinking any paint you spray on a rifle will distract the value. I wouldnt paint a thing if you wanted full value of the firearm back. One might find that a certain pattern of camo is desireable while another will not care for it at all.

So why not save 2-300 dollars and do this........

$10 of krylon and $5 worth of stencils

just enter the word paint or krylon or camo in the search box and you will see everybodys work. there are a few guys that do this work on this site. one guy does full on custom airbrish work with skulls and skeletons. i have said it before, ill say it again, i love the look of some of the camo jobs, i full on appreciate the work and balls it takes to paint a $2000+ scope or even a $1000 scope, but my scrote shrivels right up at the thought of doing it. that said, this would be my choice and id never think of selling it...

That's one slammin' rifle paint job, and essentially the same one I would like, though I have been advised to perhaps stick with a single color for the metal, and go full camo on the stock alone.

I'm not artistically inclined, and would be downright afraid to try and do a digi camo job on a $600 stock. I'm sure that I would manage to screw it up royally. Without having some on-hand guidance, there's no way I'd do it on my own.

you could always buy a 2x4 and practice before you do it to the gun. try the trash cans, your toaster, random stuff before you go at the rifle. it may cost you twice as much in paint, but for that matter go to the dollar store and get some $1 cans of paint and start there. after you gain confidence buy the krylon, i think fusion is good for plastics, and go nuts. its camo, there is no real wrong camo paint job
