I am thinking about getting a 17 HM2 barrel for another Finnfire Range. Before I did something like that I wanted to get peoples first hand opinion about the caliber, likes and dislikes and the Liljia barrel compared to the factory barrel.

    Thanks,
    Tim

17hm2 is my pet round. I've a full custom Savage MKII, Volquartsen converted 10/22, a custom Ruger Charger and a NEF single shot. I still am planning a Ruger MKIII pistol conversion this winter. It is everything the HMR is out to 125yrds. Shoots flat as a pancake and hits hard on gophers and blackbirds. The round works best in single stack mags of 10rnds or less. It also suppresses very well. My rifles are all 16" as there is no benefit to a longer barrel.

I too am fond of the hm2 because it’s 5-6 bucks for 50 rounds, I can use it in guns that use 22lr magazines and it can hang with the HMR out to about 100 yards.

Accuracy wise thought, unless you get some Eley ammo, you are looking at about the same accuracy as the 17 HMR.

Why would it be more accurate than the 17hmr?

Only one manufacturer of 17hm2, that's CCI.
Hornady may provide the bullets, but CCI does the assembly.
CCI doesn't have the quality control necessary for anything but hunting ammo. :(

I keep holding out hope. Anschutz is starting to make new 17hm2 guns and I keep hoping they will convince Eley to make more ammo.
The 17hm2 is the round that should have been. If it would have come out before the 17hmr I think we would see the 17hmr be almost non existent

I had a Shilen chambered & installed in 17 HM2 on my 581LH and love it. Compared to the .22 LR, it’s trajectory seems almost laser-like out to 100 yds. Being a bolt action, I haven’t had any issues like I read about with the 10/22 conversions.

The only “issue” was the ammo shortage a couple years ago but, that affected most rimfire ammo.
