I am going on a coastal black bear hunt on PoW AK. I was told to have waders for the hunt. I have no experience with waders living in ND, so I ordered a light weight pair of the 420-denier nylon coated in pvc. They seem fine except for the fact that they are extremely noisy. Not very conducive for stalking a bear. Any suggestions for a better option?

Re: Quiet hip waders?

Well, my first choice would be one of the (Simms, made in Boseman) Gore-tex chest waders as they tend to be relatively quiet and are also very tough. Of course then you would have to purchase seperate wading "shoes" and your investment would be in the neighborhood of 6 bills. Great for someone who will use them alot. Next would be any brand of neoprene waders, and unfortunately last would be PVC coated nylon (based on being quiet as they are the most noisey.)

Neoprene is fairly quiet, but them aren't something I'd like to trek around Alaska in, or pack around.

If you had to have them on when away from the boat or whatever, I'd spend the money and get something like the Cabela's wader "jeans". A lot more comfortable than any neoprene chest waders if you're planning on spending an ample amount of time in them.
