Re: Rabbit with CCI Velocitor at 75 yds
I'm a shameless Velocitor fan. Using these rounds, I have killed about 60 groundhogs at ranges from 5 to 300+ yards with single hits through the body. I can remember very few that have crawled off and none that crawled more than a couple steps after a solid chest hit from these rounds. I have administered multiple shots to the chest when I was not sure they were anchored, but I doubt they have ever really been necessary.
Of the few dozen I've killed at ranges beyond 100 yards, only one time did the bullet fail to exit. In that instance (100 yard shot), after passing through the length of a large groundhog's body, it came to rest under the skin of the off-side and had expanded to .35", IIRC. Even the kill I made at 360 paces the other day was a complete pass though and nearly instant death.
I believe these are the best hunting round available for the .22 LR due to their excellent bullet construction (Speer Gold-Dot, basically, from what the company says), relatively good BC (.132, IIRC), good quality control, and hyper-velocity. Retained energy at range is better than anything else, in my opinion. They are also relatively flat-shooting for short range work (<100 yards), and handle the wind OK for longer shots, considering it is a .22 LR.
Highly recommend to anyone wanting the best hunting round available for the .22 LR.
