    Anyone use these?
    http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1611

I decided to go ahead and get the rainier upper and all I can say is I am glad I did. I have used Larue before but this is better. The weight for the rock solid feel and talk about tight fit to the lower. After I purchased it I got an e-mail saying they were giving a free compensator flash hider with purchase of their upper and guess what they are sending me the compensator for free! All together I am extremely happy with their products and customer service. I will get some pictures of the rifle on here soon.

Yeah, top quality. Along with the Vltor uppers and the Larue Stealth, it is one of the gold standard billet uppers on the market.

Super tight tolerance, 7075 aluminum, and light weight. Can't beat it.

There are alot of billet uppers but some are so bulky where this one is streamlined, but strong.

    Re: Rainier Arms Uppers

+1 on the upper. I have the Rainier Arms Ultra Match Pistol Upper, 7.5". This thing is solid as granite, very well done for both fit and finish. They put out a solid product that's backed by some great CS.

Im not a fan of billet over forged. I think that the billet uppers and lowers need to be thicker in spots due to the fact that the billet isnt as strong as a forged piece.

TO me the bulk and price is not worth it, I would prefer a forged piece.

    Re: Rainier Arms Uppers

Since the better billets are made from the same type aluminum as forged uppers I would imagine no one will ever have a stength issue. I've never heard of a 7075 billet upper failing because it was billet machined and not forged. There is no doubt that the premium uppers are more precise in design that your average forged upper. Does it make a difference? Maybe not. But in a long heavy barrel application or precision rifle it couldn't hurt.

Rainier, Noveske, and Larue all use 7075 billets on their precision guns. Hard to argue with that.

In the end though, to each his own. No worries.

    Re: Rainier Arms Uppers

OK, same material .... one is forged and the other is a billet, in order to get the same strength out of the billet as the forged the billet has to be thicker.

Im not saying that it is a bad thing but it is the way it is. Are billet uppers or lowers built to the same external dimensions? No, why is that? Because the billet pieces need to be thicker to have the same strength.

    Re: Rainier Arms Uppers

Well I just built an upper with one of Rainiers Billet uppers and I love it. Extremely tight, light, and very clean looking. Goes well with my POF lower. I plan on buying more...just my personal preference. Not to mention the incredible customer service and quick delivery on everything that I have ever ordered from them.

Oh really? I'd say it's more to the point that it's easier to create a thin wall in certain areas with a forging than a billet. The expensive, involved machining involved with turning a solid billet into a lightweight duplicate of the exterior of a forged receiver simply adds no value, even with the little bit of extra weight added in.

I would have to agree with monteboy. But again, does this "strength" really matter? Is my billet upper going to just fall apart one day? I don't see that happening. I own both and like both for different things.

For an authentic look, I really like the Larue Tactical Billet upper. You have to take pause to even tell it apart from a forged upper.

I've got no problem with billet or forged by any means, like you say, different uppers for different uses. On my SPR/SASS, I'm debating on swapping my Forged for a billet, versus the Recce I'm building where it will definitely have a forged upper.

The Larue is definitely sharp.I like most everything they make, except for quad rails I prefer Daniel Defense, hands-down.

I agree on the daniel defense rails, only ones I use. I like that they are a bit lighter, but I didn't care for the fact that different ones require a special tool. I think they should include that for the price. But I still love them. I kindof have a thing for the Dark Earth brown rails, too.

Could you please describe exactly what you mean by "precise in design?"

Are you trying to say that billet uppers are machined to tighter tolerances and with a greater degree of uniformity than forged uppers? Or do you mean that forged pieces cannot be machined to the same tolerances as a billet piece?

Edit: Or, are those words the type of baloney that comes from reading too many brochures?

Thanks for the good info. One of these uppers is on my list for my next built.
