Movie Theater Rambo: Last Blood

When I was a teenager I was watching one of the Rambo movies on TV. My sainted Mother walks thru the living room with a disgusted look on her face and says, "That's about right. Sylvester Stallone can make movies about Vietnam, but he was too afraid to go over there. He might have hurt his pretty little body."

Mom was a hard lady, God rest her soul. Wish we had more like her.

The only way I'll ever watch one of his "military" movies is if I find out he's donating over half of his take-home to service related disabled veterans. When his country needed him all you heard was silence.

God bless America

A friend and I (he a Seabee, me a Marine Engineer, we literally worked side by side in the "Nam) were discussing our experiences Thursday night at the VFW, and were interrupted by another friend, who just missed the end of the 'Nam. He was exclaiming that it was all a fiasco, and almost got to say that we never belonged there. My Seabee friend suggested to him that, never having been there, he really shouldn't be interrupting. I thought that a bit harsh, but stuck with the Seabee, and suggested that it wasn't a waste for those who willingly gave their lives. He left with not another word. I suspect we both lost a friend there.

Some might say good riddance, but not me. We Veterans cannot afford to be bickering among ourselves; we are a dwindling breed.

I cannot leave this at the status quo.

Haven't seen it yet, but I've heard tell that the original author of First Blood is none too pleased by it, calling it a MAGA-fest and "an orgy of bloodshed" or some such. Because apparently slaughtering 115 Russians is OK, 254 Burmese soldiers is OK, but however many Mexican drug cartel goons he kills in Last Blood is... racist?

I’m excited for the behind the scenes documentary.

If Rambo was a 22 y/o Ssgt in 1969 then he is a 72 y/o geezer today. He would have been applying for and getting denied benefits from the VA since the early 1980's. He has Agent Orange issues, remember Agent Orange killed his buddy in the first movie. He had serious PTSD, he has been a POW at least twice and wounded in combat several times, hearing loss and tinnitus for sure, several tropical diseases and God know's what else. Poor guy was walking around the country, homeless, discouraged and with severe PTSD in 1982 and some townie cop tried to kill him.

The VA would simply keep repeating that they cannot find his records or medical records or lost his file. Medal of Honor or not..............................the Veterans Benefits Administration would have killed him faster than a Viet Cong booby trap.

My father text me out of the blue and asked me if I wanted to go see it yesterday afternoon. It is extremely rare for him to want to see a movie, so of course I took him up on it.

Like the previous movie, the level of violence and gore is a big departure from the originals. I haven't seen the movies in years, so I had no idea about the ranch, the ladies living there, etc. It was about what we expected. Like others said, there were some predictable plot moments, but hey, it's a summer action movie.

I got a good laugh out of my dad when I told him that the only thing missing was a LEO rolling up on the house at the end, knocking on the barn door, and saying "Good evening, John." Missed opportunity.

His exploding arrows were actually Thuderheads (IIRC) with the plastic blade guard in place. The blades actually would spin in flight and came in the exact same plastic case they showed in the movie but painted black. My case back in the day was orange-ish.

Goddamn man you almost made me piss my shorts, thanks! And due to the fucked up surgery by VA, NO WAY I could make it to the bathroom in time. A little warning post here prior would be in order!

Seriously though, damn, that's funny. Even as a kid I couldn't take Rambo serious.

Don't feel too bad... I've done the same thing kinda. A bunch of us infantry guys met up with a bunch of UK infantry scouts and the 12 of us just tore up Vancouver over the weekend. One US navy guy came in, one of our guys was shitty to him, said some mean things, then went to the bathroom. Navy guy followed. So did the scouts, and they stopped the navy guy from ambushing my buddy. But it never should have gotten to that point, he was one of us too. But when you're still in the big corporations like that, army and navy, there ain't much love in general like there is between vets after the fact. So don't feel bad, hell, he may wander back in another day and you two hit it off.

I hear 'ya, being in the 40's me and my buddy, we're still the youngest ones there... But we always talk to everyone like brothers and the age difference doesn't matter much if at all. A brother is a brother, sort like with you guys. But VFW is where I have to go in order to have a conversation in public and not piss off men in vagina colored polo shirts or their nagging women. It's where I can get the honest answer to my question, "whatchoo guys making for dinner tonight?" which is "oh, we make all kinds of shit". My kinda guys.

And $1 import beers? Come on. Really? There is NO better place to have a beer and listen to or swap stories with damn good people. And these people stick together too, they're the ones to know. I can navigate a community and it's resources far faster and far more effectively just by talking to the vets at VFW.

Well, all of the plot points have been thoroughly discussed above, so I'll just leave this here. Spoiler alert, unless you read through the above, then there's no spoilers left...

I'll bet his displeasure didn't prevent him from cashing the royalty check.

David Morrell, the author of First Blood, had Rambo killed by Trautman in the first book. If he was so true to his "story" he would have never allowed or wrote Rambo II and III (or the rest of the movies).

all i have to say about any of this is....

at this point...you’d think people would know not to fuck with John Rambo. some folks just have to learn the hard way i guess.

yeah, the movies are silly as fuck. i dont care. i enjoyed the first movie, second and third were stupid as shit. the last two are guilty pleasures. who doesnt like seeing bad people punished?

Seeing someone wholesale take out the Communist trash is always satisfying even if the rest of the story plot or move is pretty lame.

Thought it was lame ....... who in the Fuck builds tunnels in there front yard? Just in case ? Maybe I’m reading too much into it but shitty plot .

John Rambo, that’s who.

in “first blood” he was fighting in someone else’s territory. in this last installment, he was fighting in his prepared position. i would have enjoyed it way more if he would have done them in without injury; i mean this is John Rambo we are talking about.
i’m no rambo, but if i had a position like that and people coming for me, i’d be severly disappointed in myself if i came out as badly as rambo did. you lure them to your ambush sight, and take it like that? that’s my major disappointment in the flick. After luring them into the tunnels, i’da clacked them off....let the cave in do the work.
And with him taking them down-he would take them down, then dispatch them seconds later. Would have been better if he would have left them screaming to increase the terror factor.

My 19 year old son never seen First Blood so the evening started w First Blood,,,,ended w Last Blood. Such a good movie. Rambo still kicking ass after all these years! 5 STARS

Soooo glad I waited for it to come out on DVD. I would've been pissed if I spent money at a theater on it. The first 2/3 was ok, but the movie felt rushed at the end. And if I'm not mistaken was only 1 hour, 20 minutes long, with some flashback filler afterwards to bring it to just shy of 90 minutes.

forgot to post when i saw it...

ill start off by saying i am a mega Rambo fan

plot was ok, fit the times we are in (like he usually does), Stallone has made it known that he puts in research before his movies

first 40% of the move should be shown to every kid especially female that thinks the world is just as safe as their home town

torture scenes was pretty cool, pulled out the guys collar bone

its needed for the movie plot and story line but i cannot see him going on the original rescue mission with just a .45??

on his return he goes through a house with a hammer...WTF
with all his skill rage and training he uses a hammer, hit a guy in the head with a hammer and hes dead...so why not shoot him??

and that is the problem with the movie, it went from rambo to gore/shooting action movie

rambo was never about the blood splatter, killing and what not yes but the graphic blood splatter doesnt go with the other movies especially first blood

now the ending, we all knew it had to have a rambo hunting scene

i can understand the tunnels, PTSD/hobby etc

i can understand making home made traps and weapons, again part of his hobby and PTSD "treatment" lol

BUT..

the weapons and the way he kills guys down in the tunnel was just stupid

why would you knock a hole in the wall to shove a piece of rebar/spike through the guys skull when you could just point and shoot him, thats the gore that is not needed. a simple gun shot would suffice.

he has several AR's up stairs but he is positioning axe's and lever actions around the tunnel for the primary "kill" weapon.

again i can see for back up yes but why leave your primary at the last kill scene????

of just collapse the tunnel opening and let them starve and die in the dark

all in all i will sure watch it again and for the next 40 years like first blood, but they strayed from the character to much for my taste.

I was interested to see it since the last one but I lost interest for a personal reason that is silly. I’m a horseman- NOT a horsey person a straight up horseman, I have turned out several world champions. Seeing Stallone on a top end reining horse just sunk the whole thing for me. No matter what he does he still can’t shake the YO ADRIAN voice. It was obvious he didn’t pay attention to the on set wranglers ( I’ve been one) Brad Pit listened like a school kid for Legends of the fall. The underground flashback was just sucky I mean the point to him going home in the last one was that he found peace. Idk it was good it was one you watch because of being a fan but I ended up disappointed.
