I loaded a bunch with 155 scenars..it shot like shit out of every 308 stick.. never saw better than 1MOA..Its not 155 smk but i figure id throw that out there.
Shot a bunch out of my bolt gun behind 155 Scenars, and they shot very well.
It's a faster powder so, works better with lighter weight bullets in .308. Generally up to 165 gr. but is perfectly useable up to 175 and 180 if you only have that.
I use it in my 18" 308 with OK results. It is the best metering powder I've ever used. Give it a try. I exceeded the max recommended charge by a hair and I got 2950 fps with a 155 palma and no pressure signs. YMMV
Shot it today: 46grains TAC =2750Fps Avg. over 10 rounds on the chrony.
155SMK (2156)
new winchester brass
Federal 210m
Shot one ragged 1/2" hole at 100 and apple size groups at 300m, thats all i ask of my AR-10! I will be buying 8 or 16 pounds of it.
my math says it should still be 1250fps +- @ 1000yds.
Tac is a very clean powder. Especially for a ball type. Also the speed at which it runs is good for an AR. With the .308/7.62 in a gas gun it's marginal to get the velocity you want vs. too much pressure but you certainly won't foul up your gun like with other powders (RE-15)
That said I'm going hog wild with 75-77 bullets and 25.5 gr. of RE-15 in my AR-15 (5.56 chamber). It is dirty but it's the only one that gets me 2700 fps with them out of a short barrel. It flat out screams in the bolt gun giving me 3050-3100 (temp varies...haven't chrono'd in the super cold yet.) with that combination. I damped it down to 25 gr. for 2990 so as not to excessively wear the barrel.
