Hey all,

After reading one of the other threads on bino’s last night, it got me thinking on how my dream observation device could be designed. Disclaimer: I know nothing of optics, LRF, or electronics design so my theory may be wholly unrealistic.

My current needs for such a device would include shooting at unknown distances out to lets say 1500 yds on steel for now. Using some type of mil reticle so I can give corrections. Having the ability to laser that target for distance. When not needing to range a target or give mil corrections rather just a simple hit or miss call such as in a PRS spotting scenario, having an unobstructed view in the eye piece. So the mil reticle would not be etched into the glass.

I’ve noticed on my budget minded fixed 3x Bushnell LRF monocular, when I press the range button, the icons which appear are fairly crisp and fine lined.

Would it be possible to have a set of binoculars equipped with one button which brings up and activates the LRF features, then a separate button which would bring up some type of mill reticle (calibrated for that binos magnification) for giving corrections. When neither feature is desired, the system would default to a clear unobstructed view.

For me, 10x magnification would be insufficient for anything past 800 yards or so for giving a detailed mil correction. Maybe in the area of 15x would work.

Last but not least. It would be cool if it wasn’t prohibitively expensive.

So Hide, what are your thoughts?

If this is dumb post, my apologies.

It's possible. Swaro has made spotters where the reticle is only visible when the illumination is turned on. That said, a set of binos like you describe would be cool, but they'd also be expensive and unlikely to sell enough to be worth the R&D/design costs for the manufacturer.
