I made it to the range this morning and got to dial in the new stick. I was curious to see what she'd do on factory ammo and I was quite surprised.
Between zeroing the USO and doing a few shoot-clean-shoot drills to season the barrel I decided to go for some groups before heading home. I shot 1 group with Federal 250gr scenar match that came in at precisely 1 inch then moved to Lapua 250gr lock base. The Lapua came in at slightly under an inch (below).
Given that this barrel only had 30 rounds through it up to this point I was very pleased at what I achieved on factory loads.
As for the Barrett, when I first saw the modular layout I couldn't help but ask...why? That answer is pretty clear now. It's a long weapon with a massive barrel yet weighs in at only 17lbs with a full mag and USO SN3.
Within 15 seconds you can split it in half and fit it in a backpack and it takes about as long to reassemble it. Cleaning is a breeze and you can't help but marvel at the rugged simplicity of this design, almost that of a farm implement.
Behind the glass she is very stable. Trigger weight is a little lighter than what I'm used to at a factory setting of 2-2.5 lbs. Recoil isn't excessive but it definately lets you know you've pulled the trigger. I've heard it described as the equivelant of a 12 gauge and I'd say that's fairly accurate.
The muzzle break does a decent job and the weapon doesn't bounce around during recoil. One interesting side effect is the break has a very strong side discharge, and it will knock stuff off of the next bench over if you're not far enough forward. That said, this stick will rarely ever see another bench (or a 100 yard line) again.
Overall I have to say that this thing rocks. Given my limited trigger time, factory ammo, and a barrel that hasn't yet reached it's full accuracy potential, this will easily be a 1/2 minute rig.
