Weight and movement of the controls are the only things I don't like about Vortex, I guess they've got to save money somewhere.
The controls move just fine. The locking turrets are tight at first but smooth up with use. They are made tight. The clicks are tactile and audible as they should be. Been running them over 3 years now without an issue.

Vortex makes good scopes, for the money. I’m sure you’ve used more expensive scopes that have smoother controls. The magnification ring on my Razor is way too difficult to adjust, just like every one I’ve tried which is a hassle to put it mildly. My point is, you can’t expect a a company to be able to manufacture a product competing against more expensive products without compromise.
My G2 was fairly tight the first time I pulled up to unlock the turrets. After a little time they settled in, and are now perfect IMO. The mag ring wasnt bad, I never ordered a throw lever for it. My PST on the other hand, was very stiff and needed the throw lever, lol.
What kind of rings do you use? I really like the ARC (American Rifle Company) rings https://www.eurooptic.com/american-rifle-m10-qd-l-mount-34mm-40mm-157-height-30-moa.aspx because I feel that they grip the scope evenly and securely and that even grip imparts minimum stress into the mechanics of the scope.
I’m using LaRue Tactical’s mount.

I'm not one of the guru's here, but if it were me I would toss that in the trash. Too many problems have been traced to vertically split mounts and in my opinion there is no reason to have one. Get yourself a ARC, Spuhr, Gessele, or an Addmount. Then if you still have a problem send your scope in to have the manufacture fix it.
I have no particular knowledge about LaRue, it is not your choice of LaRue that is suspect it is your choice of any vertically split mount.

Thanks for that link. All I see in that thread is correlation, as we know, correlation is not causation. You can say some vertically split rings are bad but you can’’t say vertically split rings are bad, from what was in that thread. I’’m using the LaRue mount on a carbine with a scope I don’’t dial (Razor 1x6), I wouldn’’t put a quick detach mount on a precision rifle.
I have used many more expensive scopes and they also feel the same as being very tactile and audible. It's good to have them like that. You don't want knobs to spin loosely. You want to have to turn them and feel and hear the clicks.
The mag ring also gets easier with use. If it's too much get a MGM Switchview. They make a cheaper plastic version that works great and is only $19. I just installed one on a Gen II 3-18x.

There is no compromise. Tight tolerances aren't a compromise.
I leave my turrets unlocked, I'm not too worried about knocking a turret and losing what I'm dialed to. Vortex said leaving them unlocked won't cause any issues.

The turrets are definitely stiff and the diopter ring is also very tight. Sometimes when they come in the diopter is so snug it will feel like its locked in place before you turn it.

For the record, I went to the gym once.....
My rifle is about 11lbs and I can pick it up by the elevation turret without the cap unlocking. The tolerances are tight. However, I prefer they be that way and I leave them unlocked if I'm in a position where I need to dial my dope.
Now if only the stupid flip up cap wouldn't come off every time I try to open it. More tape...

. Kidding aside, try 3M automotive tape on the defender ocular cover, work great (it's thin, adhesive on two sides & VERY sticky).

My Gen II turrets were very stiff to lock and unlock when new. Over time they have smoothed out nicely. I lock and unlock a lot, so this broke them in. The more you use them the quicker this will happen. The magnification ring seemed comparable to magnification rings on other scopes but I still felt the need to add a throw lever for ease of use when scanning for a target. I leave it on the highest setting most of the time.
