I have a mix of Hornady and RCBS reloading products. I have always gotten amazing service from Hornady. call the tech support and whatever you need gets done, and they send you a replacement product quicker than you can blink your eye even when it has been completely my fuck up. I have used RCBS customer service line a couple of times and it had always been the same. This week i have called them three times and now i guess they are owned by ATK so the main ATK line answers. They ask you what brand you are even calling about. The person is not gun literate at all. They want an explanation of why you are calling. I explain "... i have a question about the 50BMG press i own." I hear the guy typing, and says " So you have a 50 BGM press?" I am like no its called 50 BMG lol. Needless to say he puts me on hold comes back and says no one is available to take your call. I can take your number and someone will call you back within 24-48 hours. This has happened three days in a row now. Like WTF?

I have had the same results. Margins and bottom line. Not longevity. Make a buck and sell off the pieces like the chemical industries and the investment bankers. What ever happened to monopoly laws anyway.

I dunno about this "ATK" stuff but I've never had a problem. Now I've never called in, and have only ever emailed them through their site but I've broken (my fault) a bunch of stuff (dropping/loosing/etc.) and they've always gotten me back on track with fast shipping and super friendly emails. Just last month I had to contact them to get a new small pin for the hand priming tool and I had the new pin about a week later. It sounds like the ATK people are acting as a middle man of some sort and your issue is really with ATK not so much RCBS.

Another thing that might help is if you do a little investigating and find the actual part number you need. For example I sent this last month:

"I dropped and damaged the small priming rod for the 90200 Hand Priming Tool. I believe its part number 7-90213. I have shopped around and can't find a replacement, is there any chance I could order one via RCBS directly?

Thanks in advance!"

Oh fuck, I hate hearing this. I don't use a lot of RCBS products but the ones I do I have received EXCELLENT customer service for. 2 years ago I bought a used 243 die set that the asswipe who sold it to me had installed a 257 expander ball in. I called and tried to buy an expander ball and they refused to take payment, sent me the correct one gratis.

Just a shame when this kind of thing happens and large companies shoot themselves in the foot by destroying the things that smaller companies they buy up were built on. Look at what Freedom Group did to Marlin, 'nuff said.

WHEN did ATK buy them? Very sad if they had to sell out. I don't understand this when the reloading market is BOOMING more than ever before.

Never had to call RCBS but always had fantastic customer service when I email about a broken part (on dies and I supply die part number) and promptly receive reply free replacement being sent.

NEVER have I had a problem with RCBS customer service--other than them not listening at all when I insisted on paying for stuff that I broke.

AFAIK- ATK has owned Federal, CCI, Outers, RCBS, Alliant (Hercules Powder) for several years. Don't confuse ATK with The Freedom Group.

two weeks ago I sent them an e-mail, inquiring about the life expectancy of the cutter head on my Trim Pro. I explained that I had done 400 .308 cases to 2.005 (trim too spec) and the cutter was too dull to continue. I got a reply the next day, asking for my addy. New cutter arrived about a week later.
I will continue to use RCBS until I'm given reason not too.

ATK is a military industrial conglomerate - these things happen. In addition to making our reloading presses, they test rocket motors, for example.

Expecting an ATK employee to know about every sub-companies' products is unrealistic. That said, someone needs to unfuck their phone system and have it patch straight through to RCBS where someone knows what they're doing. This sounds a lot like a big company management problem, not an RCBS problem. I suspect they're as frustrated as you are about it.

I did receive a call from an RCBS tech employee who was extremely nice and answered my questions etc. I think the issue is that to call RCBS you actually have to call ATK. If they fixed that i think it would be much smoother.

They are nice enough but flaky. I called recently about a broken trimmer and they said they would get the parts right out. I had to call back twice over the next two months because the parts never went out or they sent half the parts I needed but they were always polite.
