RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press

Re: RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press

I have a Pro 2000 with manual index. I have nothing but good things to say about it so far, but haven't been using it for long. Right now I only have it set up for .223, but it is a very sturdy press and well built. Priming is really good on it, and loading the APS strips is very fast. The powder measure is very accurate, and once you have a setting you can go back to it easy. They could have given better directions for the powder measure, but it's easy to figure out. Totally breaking everything down is quick and easy too, as well as changing out for another caliber.

Re: RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press

I've one of these since 01, paid $300.00 off ebay. Looks like a nice, sturdy press. I just don't use it. Sized 25 45acp once, loaded 43 already sized .223, forgot to prime 6 of them. Priming in a press apparently isn't for me. Win 748 leaking out the unprimed holes was a mess!
Caliber change is somewhat easy, the primer seater a little tough. The powder dispenser is awesome, I don't understand this thing not being more popular.
I'm actually glad I saw this thread, today I'm going to unbolt this thing from my bench and haul it out to a freind's house and give it to him, maybe someone will get some use out of it.
Hope no one doesn't buy one because I'm an idiot, it's a good unit.

I just posted saying I've never used mine, but awkward and clunky???
Too me the Dillon 550 was awkward, right hand handle, right hand feed.
Pro 2000, right hand handle, left hand feed= normal.
Sorry

Re: RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press

I've had one (auto indexing) since August and have loaded just over 5000 rounds on it. I really like it - but know that I haven't run another progressive press to compare to. I use it for pistol & .223, but not for my precision rifle (still use my single stage Rockchucker for that).

I picked this one up for $400 BNIB from a local who won it in a raffle or contest. I think RCBS does a poor job of marketing it... with more exposure, I have no doubt that it would be more popular & well known.

It is built like a tank, very easy (and relatively cheap) to change calibers on and I love the APS priming system. I'm in no hurry and I churn out 300 rounds an hour without a bullet feeder / case feeder. Having 5 holes makes it flexible (I use a lockout die when loading pistol); the powder hopper with the micrometer and small cylinder is a huge improvement over the basic one that I got with my RC. It even throws Unique accurately... About the only thing I don't like is the indexing spring is a little stout, which causes a bit of powder splash on cases that are filled. I understand RCBS will send a softer spring. Oh, and in general, RCBS has OUTSTANDING customer service (comparable to what I've heard about Dillon as far as I'm concerned). Every time, they've sent free parts when it was my fault.

There is a user named GWhis over at arfcom (and other sites) who is a wealth of knowledge... he's made a number of modifications to his that make the press even better. So far I've left mine alone.
