Hello!
I've purchased a like new second hand Trim Pro 2 with universal Shell holder.

However the trimmer have an issue, the pilot are not allineated with the mouth of the case, and when trim the mouth of the neck come out crooked.

I suppose that the shell holder are not paralel to the support.

As soon I post some photos...

Can someone tell me how I can operate for resolve the issue?

Thanks

Ciao, RTTY

I have the RCBS trimmer, but it does not have the universal shellholder. Can you take some pictures of the shellholder for us to look at?

Also, the pilot looks too small for the caliber. The case mouth/neck needs to fit very close to the diameter of the pilot.

Looks like something is wrong with the jaw holder. I would reach out to rcbs. They have great customer service.

Hello,
The hole for the actuating rod, on the case holder shelf, seem a bit larger...

If I do not push the handle lever straight the shell holder torque a bit on the right or on the left, and the mouth of the case lose the pilot direction...

I torqued the real 10-32 nut (item #7) and have added a washer for add more tension but not 100% solved...

Ciao MarshallDodge,

Okay, I really think you need the correct sized pilot to insure the correct alignment.

In the current situation, the trimmer is relying on those small jaws in the shellholder, and that is not going to work.

As a temporary fix, you could try wrapping the small pilot with tape to get the correct diameter, and do a test.

I have a trim pro 2 as well and when I trim brass I load the brass in the jaw. Then as I push the cutter pilot into the case mouth I'll push down on the lever to open the jaws slightly. It helps center the brass. Then let jaw lever go once the pilot is all the way seated. It sounds like it's more work then it actually is. It's fast and simple when your actually trimming.

I'm not using the trimmer for the 6.5mm, but I tried it for the 308 and 223 where I have the right pilot for these calibers.

However, even using the exact pilot the case does not align with the pilot I think the problem comes from the fact that the entire system that holds the shell is fixed to the base with a single screw and when you press on the lever this can move the entire shell holder system to one side or the other.

For the 6,5mm I use the economic Lee Gauge PIN and the Lock Stud with a 3D printed handle.
This solution are too fast and consistent....

Well, as soon as I get pilot 26 I will try your advice. Do you think that using the fixed shell holder #3 can somehow circumvent this problem?

I'm not sure. I've never tried a shell holder. I do use a 12v Dewalt drill to power mine instead of the handle to crank it though. It's a pretty smooth operation once I get set up and rolling. Push the lever all the way to load the shell. Then push it maybe 1/4 the way just to the jaws slack up as I insert the pilot. Helps to square things up. Then as the cutters make contact I release the lever.

Now that I think about it. I don't think the shell holder will work as the case will just spin with the cutter head.

This was going to be my suggestion as well. Enough play in the system that using the Pilot to line it up before allowing the base to be fully grabbed works well
