How does RE 15 drop from a Dillon 550? IS RE 15 an extruded powder like varget. I'm making my list of different powders to try for stuff heavier than 55 for a 223. I don't mind getting 2 or 3 1LB bottles to try but don't want to order 5 or 6. As of now I'm thinking of ordering a bottle of Tac, RE 15 and CFE. Would like something that meters well in 550 inwhich I've heard Tac does but I read conflicting opinions of it. Thanks

Not well. If you polish the guts of the powder measure, you can expect about +/- .3gr, which of course sounds pretty bad, but consider that FGMM is about +/- .5gr.
If you do a good OCW test, you can probably identify a chargeweight that will accomodate the inconsistencies of the RL15 from the measure, and have very good ammo.

Re15 is an extruded powder. The extruded powders do not get the best results with any type of powder measure, lots of variation.
I still use my Dillon powder measure for thrown charges on estruded powder but just for the short-line ammo out to 300 yds.

I know that it doesn't give a reloader the "warm fuzzies" to have +/- .3gr chargeweight variance, but seriously, you can have very very good ammo with that much variance.

CFE223 and Alliant 2000MR are both ball powders and meters better yet. However, I think you'll be surprised just how well you can do with thrown charges of Varget and/or RL15. If you do - stay away from any max. loads. But I would recommend not doing it. Try a ball - 2520 for example. With a Ball, use a hot primer. My 2 cents.

Over the past 6 months, I've jumped around a few different 223 powders on my 550.
Meters Well: XMR-2015, TAC, BL-C2 (+/- ~0.1 gr)
Meters Poor: Varget, RE-15 (+/- ~0.3 gr)
I use so much varget and RE-15 though, I ended up buying an RCBS chargemaster 1500. BEST reloading tool if you're looking for accurate loads with extruded powder.
I did load testing with my first batches of varget loads using the 550 powder measure w/69gr SMK's and they were about 1-1.5 moa at best. Once I started using the CM1500, i tightened up so 0.5-0.75 moa.
Definitely stay away from max loads if you keep using your dillon to measure. That +/- 0.3 gr can be significant on the upside of that tolerance.
