In light of using a webcam to view the scale, I was able to really consolidate my powder throwing process. This little bench is finally starting to come together. Sure does make reloading more fun when things are laid out correctly and snugged down to the bench.

Next step is to put a lcd against the wall to the right side of the powder block so I can get the laptop freed up.

I used to put a soldering magnifying glass in front of the needle, but still had to elevate the scale to eye level to get the results I wanted. I think what you came up with is something to consider.

I double check my Charge Master w/ this ancient Ohaus that's mounted eye level....

    orkan,
Looks good. Now you just need a way for the powder throw to go straight into the balance bowl...

Looks like you've been on the Lean-manufacturing / 5S course

    Whats the lean manufacturing course?

Yeah, I really need to find a way to throw right into the pan. I have tried all sorts of tubes, pipes, and what not. The powder is always carrying too much velocity, and splashes all over out of the pan.

I'm all ears for ideas on that guys.

We have been going though this for the last 5 years. It pisses me off that you can tell managers what needs to be done and they won't listen but they will pay some outside consultant group millions of dollars to tell them the same thing before they will act on it. 5S and Lean are just common sense things we should have been doing all along but enough about that.

Back to reloading. I made a drop tube for my powder drop to go straight into the pan. I had to make a baffle for the tube to keep powder from bouncing out of the pan. It speeds up the process a little and every little bit adds up.

Lean manufacturing is based on common sense.. but as we all know there really isn't enough of that to go around.

The RCBS drop thingy looks pretty interesting.. a factor in keeping the power in the tray could be to reduce it's delivery velocity.. just a thought, did you try a shallower angle?

    Re: Re-organized a bit...

Is your table top 6 layers of 3/4 inch plywood? It looks like an idea I drew up but haven't made yet. I have plywood blocks with my presses bolted to them then my table top, but your set up looks like I could mount presses and rearrange as I need to by making three slots.

    Re: Re-organized a bit...

The Baffle idea is a neat one..

Something like this.. would capture the higher velocity output from the measure and then it would reduce speed as it dropped though..

I used a mixing tube for a 2 part epoxy that we use to set anchor bolts in concrete. I can't think of the name of the stuff right now but it looks like a double barrel caulking gun. The mixing tube can be cut to the length you need and so can the mixing baffle that is inside. The mixing baffle looks like an auger. I kept cutting the length off until I got the flow like I wanted. Too long and the powder bridges and too short and the powder goes everywhere.

I thought about trying to change the angle RJ but I had this laying around so I tried this first. It has worked well so far so I never tried the other. I might try it when I get a little time.

    Re: Re-organized a bit...

Yeah, richardj, that is what I had in my head, but not sure how to get one made.

dmg sounds like he's found something already made that does the same thing. I'm going to have to wander around in the hardware stores until I see something with some baffles in it like that.

If I can't get something figured out, I'll just have to get an electronic dispenser to get the charge in the pan.
