I really liked this movie! It's original and fresh, something completely new! I've watched it five times in less than a week and that's very rare (it is part of a one week trial so...). Skeptical of video game movies and I'm not a big fan of CGI, but in this case it was to replicate a video game world and not to mimic real life so it worked out really well, and it's not your typical video game movie either. There are real life scenes too. Don't wanna spoil it, but it's about the future where everything is fucked and people only want to escape a miserable reality and a large game world was developed for this with total VR immersion. It's like you're there. But like with everything, some giant corporation stepped in and was fucking it all up for everyone.
I like video games, but I wouldn't call myself a gamer. It takes me forever to finish one. I have a PS4 but use it mostly for streaming or DVD's, but I do have a few really long RPG type games that I like. I have a buddy, my army buddy, that's' a gamer and he's told me a lot about it over the years so I understand most of the lingo but if you don't play games or never have, you may not get it or like the movie that much. He also helped me understand just how important it is to them, that there's a real economy revolving around it, and that it's rapidly changing. A setup like in the movie may be not too far off in the future.
