Realistically... what accuracy should I expect?

I'm curious because for about $2300, I can get a rifle custom built with 1/4moa guarantee. It just won't have a custom action (trued remington 700) or an AICS stock (M40A1).

This build would be similar in cost and have more "preferable" components... just have no clue what moa it would shoot.

Either will out shoot the shooter, almost guaranteed.

What MOA it shoots will be largely dependent upon who threads, chambers and screws it together.

Also, because a rifle has a 1/4moa guarantee does not guarantee that the owner will be able to shoot 1/4moa with it.

A trued 700 in a M40A1/HTG stock is a good rifle, but I personally do not like the ergonomics of the stock in a scoped rifle. I could probably shoot the same barreled action in an AICS with adjustable cheekpiece set up for me better.

-depends on what accuracy you are capable of as much if not more, than the accuracy the rifle is capable of. I'm not trying to be a dick (it comes naturally I guess), I'm being honest. Personally I cannot shoot groups for crap, and am happy with most of my shots on paper being just-sub moa. I guarantee that my rifle is capable of better than that, but I'm not going up a wall to chase it. I don't get overly anal on loads, I'd rather have a sub-moa load that's easy to crank out than a perfect load I have to spend weeks making.

Either build sounds great. If you are a traditionalist, go the 700 in the HTG. If you find yourself poring through the pictures of gorgeous custom builds here in the photo threads,go with the custom.

I was just wondering what capability the rifle had.

I figured such a rifle would be 1/2 moa, but wasn't sure if it was even better than that and touching 1/4 moa.

That sounds awful cheap for a guaranteed .25 moa rifle. More preferable componants? The ones you have are pretty (understatement) good. Dont know if I could ever get myself to trade a Sergeon action for a Remmy, trued or not and I'm a Remmy fan. I'm sure either rifle will shoot very well. Tough decision, good luck.

Just to clarify, I'm just spitballing and wondering what difference in accuracy there will be between these 2 builds. And by preferable components, I was referring to the Surgeon/AICS. Seems like it would have superior stuff, same cost, but would it be better in the end?

Yeah, the Surgeon action has a few featurs that you would need to spend a good bit on to make the remmy the same.

Depends on what you're getting with your current gear.

If you can get a reliable, sound factory rifle to do 1MOA consistently with halfway decent ammo, you're ready for the custom implements.

If not, it's a good question what one might reasonably expect for $2300 more.

I am a remmy fan. Been using them for as long as I have been shooting and never really felt the need to replace my primary remington with anything else.

If I had the chance to base a build off of a Surgeon over a Remington for the same base price, I would go with the Surgeon.

I have been contemplating a competition rifle on a Surgeon action. The reputation is stellar, the features are there and it doesn't need to be worked over like the Remington to assure that it will support the accuracy the barrel is capable of.

HOWEVER, I am not a fan of the AICS. If you are, then rock on. Make sure you get to handle one before you buy it.

An accuracy guarantee is only worth the toilet paper it's printed on. Get which ever one you think fits you best and make sure you have a good smith turn your barrel if you decide to build.
