Complete newb to the AI product line and currently wiping drool off of keyboard. What I'm looking to understand is what are the big differences between an AXMC and a plain AX in a short action caliber? I am looking at getting into one in 6.5 Creed or 308 but from what I am reading you can interchange the barrels in both of these rifles (AX and AXMC) between those two calibers really easily. Is a bolt/mag change required or just spin out one barrel and screw in the next and away you go?

Is there any big advantage to going with the AXMC over the regular AX?

Reason I am looking at 308 is in Canada (where I am) we are able to shoot on military ranges but have to shoot a Nato caliber (their range, their rules) on the ranges we have access to so the ability to flip back and forth between 308 and 6.5 when going from Mil to Civilian ranges is very appealing.

The AXMC is a long action version. People will call the Short action an AXMC to but that is incorrect.

Difference is you can switch from 338 bolt face down to .308 on the AXMC. The AX is just .308 bolt face

The short answer is AXMC is the long action and the standard AX is the short action. The AXMC can shoot all short action calibers with the .308 bolt and mag well adapter. You can also get a Magnum (300wm) and 338 bolts as well. The AX will only shoot short action .308 base size rounds. Eurooptics have some very good pricing on both long and short action AI's.
I have the AI-PSR (same as the AXMC) and have shot 308,6.5, 300wm and 338lm out of the chassis with out issue. The barrel change takes me less the 1 minute. Hope this helps

Yes... But you could only ever shoot short action cartridges from it if that doesn't matter order up a 308 barrel at the same time and be done

AXMC is the way to go. Its on sale in most retailers. It would be essentially be last years model when the AXSR is around. I’m sure you will be happy with either AXMC or AXSA. Good luck in your search and deliberations.

Thanks for all the guidance gang, appreciate it. We only have one shop in this country that sells AI rifles, limited selection so most people who shoot them up here import from the US retailers and pay the import fees and duty charges.
