Read this the other day.

I should get my new 6.5x47, Surgeon 591 SA, Kreiger barrel, AICS stock in earth brown, Shilen trigger, NF 5.5-25x50 Zero stop and NP-1R, all in December. I was thinking about using Redding Type-S bushing dies but know enough that I want to avoid doughnuts. So, I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has successfully used dedicated FL dies by Foster or Redding that have been reamed out to the appropritate neck diameter. I'm thinking about actually getting three FL Forster's @ .290", .289" and .288". Called Forster this AM and the price is still $10 per die for reaming plus shipping. I have an account with them so my three dies would run $29.35 each plus $10 each or $118.05.

I have both Redding and Forster BR seater dies and prefer the Redding.

Re: Reaming FL dies instead of bushing dies

I have a FL bushing die from David Tubb in 6XC. This is a custom die that the bushing includes the shoulder of the case. When you size 6XC in this die, the bushing also bumps the shoulder and sizes the neck all the way down to the neck, shoulder junction. Guess what.......after 6 or 7 firings, I have donuts.

I think the reamed FL dies will slow the donut process but you need an inside reamer to cut the donuts out WHEN not if they form. JMHO.

The donut is an artifact of the brass. The tool is not the cause.

You might want to consider the Forster bushing/bump die if you don't like the Redding S-type die. Three custom-sized FL dies seems excessive.
