21 Feb 2021 - Recap of the URSA NorCal Feb ‘21 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info, comments, and stats from Oscar)
Shooters we held two matches this month. Because we didn't get at least two people qualified for the first match, there was no actual “first match”.
During second match qualification, Calshipbuilder and RickyRacer87 both qualify for the upcoming 3K match, 5 in 8 for CSB and 5 in 6 for RR. [NOTE: Even though shooters are allowed 10 shots during initial-distance qual, they can stop shooting whenever they want...to save ammo, reduce barrel wear, etc.]
After both scoring 4 in 10 during record round, at 2054 yards, RickyRacer87 and Lynn engaged at 2586 yards. Neither got a single hit so we went to a sudden death shoot off. RickyRacer87 won the sudden death when Lynn ran out of ammo. RickyRacer87 kept shooting (had plenty of ammo - smart fellow) but still had no luck. I got home around 7:30 PM and RickyRacer87 texted me around 9 PM saying he made it home.
New shooter, moodilistic, shot his 375 CheyTac and 338 Lapua rifles for the first time and we are heading back up in a couple weeks to get both guns dialed in.
There are a few pics and a YouTube video link in the Gallery - thanks RickyRacer87!
Match Winner (and 3K qualifier), RR87, was shooting 300 gr Hornady A-TIPs out of a Billy Goat Machine/BGM-built .338 LM AI (Ackley Improved) with BGM “OVIS” (Defiance Deviant Tactical) action, Bartlein 31.5” barrel, Manners T5A stock, Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 SFP scope, and ERATAC 0-70 MOA adjustable base/rings.
Match Runner-Up, Lynn, was shooting 795 gr. TenX solids out of a unknown-smith build in .50 BMG with BAT 2.5” EX action, 36” Bartlein barrel, Manners H50 stock, and Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 FFP scope.
Calshipbuilder (3K qualifier) was shooting 300 gr. Berger OTMs out of a "Carlsbad"-built .338 LM AI (Ackley Improved) with Weatherby Mark V action, Bartlein 27” barrel, McMillan A5 stock, and Nightforce ATACR, 5-25x56 scope with Ken Farrell 40 MOA base and NF rings.
