Jan 23, 2025 - Recap of the URSA NorCal January ‘25 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)
Well the rain finally stopped and we had an opportunity to shoot. Well, to be blunt about it, we had the opportunity to watch Amanda show us how to shoot.
She shot her way to two more achievement points by hitting 5/10 or more at 2147 yards with a gun she had previously won at last year's 3K match. [She is now an URSA Novice shooter, our first gal.] She then went on to win both matches at 2600 yards outright with no shoot off or sudden death involved. We are all very proud of how well she shot and she called all of the shots for the rest of the field as well via camera. And I even brought home several jars of jelly she made!!!
Her gun was a Savage chambered in 338 Lapua Ackley Improved with 300 grain A-tips with a keel added to the butt stock made by Doug Pulver. The trigger was smithed by Shaun Brady and she was using an ATACR scope from yours truly.
She then went on to beat Doug, Shaun, and yours truly in both of those matches!!!
The pictures show the weather was indeed very cold but the wind was good most of the day
A big congratulations goes to Shaun Brady on his 2 second place finishes as he was shooting well all day.
My only highlight was I finally qualified for the 3K match to be held in April and I got to eat lots of humble pie.
Match Winner (twice), Amanda, was shooting 300 gr. Hornady A-Tips out of her Savage 110 FCP HS Precision (factory action and modified factory stock) with 32” Bartlein barrel, chambered in .338 LM Improved by Jim’s Precision, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope on ERATAC 0-70 MOA base and rings (on the 30 MOA Savage factory rail).
Match Runner-Up (twice), Shaun, was shooting 277 gr Cutting Edge MTACs out of his self-smithed Ruger Precision Rifle/RPR with 32” Bartlein barrel, chambered in 33XC, Ruger RPR chassis, Vortex Razor HD Gen III 6-36x56 scope on Ruger 30 MOA base w/ Vortex 20 MOA one-piece rings and 100 MOA/29MRAD Nightforce Wedge Prism.
