May 22, 2024 - Recap of the URSA NorCal May ‘24 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)
Shooters - we had some new barrels on and had a very rewarding day of shooting gongs. [Both matches were shot at 2147 yards.] In the first match RickyRacer87, using his BillyGoat 33xc with a 2-day-old barrel, took the win over Jim Roby and his 375 CheyTac. Good shooting RickyRacer87 and good shooting Mr Roby (and congrats to Jim on scoring his second achievement point)!
In the second match I got lucky and got the win and our own Nick Wheeler was Runner-up after his long drive to shoot with us again. Nick was shooting his 338 Lapua magnum and 285 ELD bullets. He put a hurt on the gongs all day.
Jim and Nick are both good shooters and we expect match wins out of both of them sooner than later. Jim broke the bolt holding his bipod extension and, even after wire-tying it back together, he still shot extremely well. For those who still had ammo left, we shot out to 3311 yards after the second match concluded. RickyRacer87 got 3 hits at 1.88 miles away.
Next month is our last match date before the archery deer hunts start, followed by the rifle hunts, so mark your calendars. We will shutdown for 3 months so our shooting doesn't bother those pursuing big game and we can go hunting as well. During the down time we will be clearing up the 2147 and 2600 target locations, and our furthest gong at 3700 yards so we can more easily see the splashes.
