18 Oct 2020 - Recap of the URSA NorCal Oct ‘20 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and comments and stats from Oscar)
We had 7 guns on the line and held two matches. The initial distance was 2054 yards and the second distance was 2586 yards.
At the shorter 2054-yard distance the wind was calm and conditions for our area where very good with most shooters scoring multiple hits. At 2586 yards spotting your misses was critical.
Scott won both matches. Doug finished second in the first match (Happy Birthday, Doug) and the second match was uncontested (three shooters qualified for the second distance - Jayson, Ken, and Scott - but only Scott was prepared to actually shoot it, thus won it by default).Notable mentions – at 2054 yards Scott shoot 7 in 10 in both matches and Ken Eng hit 5 in 10 both times. Ken scored his 5th achievement target during the first match, he’s now officially an URSA “novice”. He and Scott were the first to qualify for the 2021 URSA 3000 Yard Challenge.
Overall a good bunch of shooters who came to win.
Stats:
Scott was shooting an ES Tactical-smithed, re-barreled Desert Tech SRS A1 (36” K&P barrel chambered in .37XC) with Leupold 7-35x56 Mark 5HD MIL scope and Spuhr rings (added 50 MOA between the rings and PRI riser). He was shooting 400 gr Cutting Edge Lazers.
Ken was shooting a Billy Goat Machine/BGM-smithed rifle with McMillan TAC50 action, 35” Lilja barrel in .50 DTC Eastes, McMillan LBR stock, Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 scope, and shooter-designed-and-built 60 MOA rail with PRI rings. Ken was shooting 762 gr Cutting Edge MTACs.
