After hanging out on here and reading other info, I'm debating on changing my upper and lower receiver. They are current aero m4e1 enchance upper and lower. Would going to something thicker walled give possible improvement benefits? I wouldn't mind something slick side as well.

This is a range gun for shooting targets out to 500 yards to date. So, any brand suggestions would be helpful for thicker walled receivers. I've read that mega and vltor are thicker than aero, but uncertain on that claim and availability of mega..
Thanks

Here are current components.

Aero M4e1 upper/lower
White Oak 20" varmint barrel
Toolcraft BCG
Radian Raptor Handle
Geissele SDE trigger
Aero Handgaurd
Magpul PRS Stock
Burris XTR 2 with American Recon Defense mount

Preface: I am not a dick, and this is not a personal slight.

The fuck is wrong with what you have!?! Aero makes great stuff, and your build appears to be rounded out with some decent components. Stop chasing the internet dream, and shoot that MF! It only gets better with trigger time. In the words of a great, "Buy more ammo", and spend more time shooting. What's wall thickness going to change for you anyway? Is this a tactical torpedo launcher?

Yeeeeeaah...I'm going to have to say that your build sheet looks just fine for shooting to 500.

By the time you get to that range any wind is going to play enough on you that your "thicker wall receiver" wouldn't make a difference.

Thanks for the replies and im very happy to keep it as is. It seems that some believe the aero components are not favorable for this task, especially when using a 4 pound barrel 20".. I like the way the enhanced upper attaches with the handgaurd and aero is readily available in my area.

IRMT-3 and MEGA SBU are my 2 favorite. Especially that MEGA SBU, it's one thick upper..

Just make sure your barrel is not flexing and making contact with the handguard or anything and you should be good to go. That setup sounds good to me to shoot out to that distance. Get you some more trigger time and learn what your barrel likes.

I like the looks of the receiver. Don't really care how much stronger they say it is. If I didn't already have an upper I might look at getting that one just based on looks. LOL

But the Aero should be fine. That being said get what it is you want and don't look back. You only live once. LOL

There are tests & data that pretty well confirm that barrel extension fit to the upper improves accuracy & consistency, but I've not seen any genuine tests or data that confirms that a stiffer receiver does as well, although, at least logically, it shouldn't be worse for sure..

But, it makes me feel better to know that I have something stiffer (heavier walled) than a standard mil-spec receiver so my preferred uppers are Vltor MUR & Cross Machine Tool's UPR.

The Cross is a billet & is extremely well finished & the surface finish on it is outstanding................both cost significantly more than Aero's.

As stated above, I can't definitely attribute better performance from either, but I'm going to keep using them on builds where I think it matters; on builds not so geared to precision, Aero's, & most other standard forged mil-spec uppers from numerous reliable sources will suffice just fine.

JMHO, YMMV

I had one of these ugly assed DPMS uppers with a heavy 20" Shilen barrel and it was the most accurate AR I've ever owned. Sold the rifle to a dude from work a few years ago like an idiot.

I dont see how you can make a structural analysis from a picture but more power to you. BCM has made quality parts for years. To me, until they are proven wrong, i see no reason to doubt them.
