I just picked up a 6.5 Creedmore with a 28” 8tw barrel, off another member here. It is built on a Stiller Tac 30 and set in an AI 2.0 chassis. I haven't even received the gun yet and already want to change a few things.

First off I have already talked to my smith and I am thinking about having the barrel set back to 22” and rechambered in 260 Rem. I already have a 260 he built me, so he said he could rechamber it with the same reamer and set the headspace the same so I can use the ammo for both of the guns interchangeably. I don't want to have to start reloading for another cartridge. I am not concerned with the the ammo part but is there any reason I should keep it a Creemore. I dont really shoot more than 600 yds as I don't have access to a longer range right now.

The next thing is, I don't really like the look of the AI chassis, I know a lot of people like them but I am really looking at getting another Manners T4A or a T5A with mini-chassis. Has anyone shot both the T5 and the AI? I could live with the look of the AI if it handles well.

I am really just looking for options. I am open to suggestions also.

Thanks

What does the 6.5CM do that the 260 can't? I don't want to have to reload another caliber just for the sake of having another caliber. I understand I can use all the same components except brass but I still have to buy brass and dies. So now I'll be set back another $300 when I can spend 150 to have it rechambered and spend 150 on another 500 bullets to shoot.

Another thing is, my 260 is a 28" barrel and I was really looking for a shorter barrel rifle. So I will have to spend another $100 to cut down the barrel and rethread it for the brake.

Cut it down to a 22.5" 6.5CM and rock out with the factory bb's for a little while (140 Amax particularly).

Then you have a stash of brass to work on reloading with. Start with the load on the back of the box.

Same powder and bullets you need for the 260, just a round that fits better in the mags, does everything else the same and has easier to find, high performance factory ammo.

I just went through this same kind of thing. I went with chambering in another 260 so I didnt have to reload for yet another caliber. I suggest you shoot the stock before you decide you dont like it. Then, if you dont, sell it and buy a Manners. I have quite a few Manners, but not a T5. I have shot Short-bus' T5A and it was ok, but would take some getting used to because I am not a thumbhole stock guy.

Not really because he is only gonna charge me 150 and I would have to buy all the brass or ammo and the dies so over $300. Then I would get a new barrel and rechamber it to 260 and be left with all the stuff for the 6.5CM and then sell it at a loss.

Just rechamber it and be done. However know that just because the chambers were cut with the same reamer, doesn't necessarily mean you will get the same performance/accuracy out of both rifles, especially with a 6" length difference. It will be close, and may both work well, but may not be mirror images of each other.

I understand this. It should be close enough for the shooting I do. I can always have specific loads for each rifle for matches and just have the other ammo for plinking at the range.
