The rifle is a M40A1. Its the sniper behind it that some of us may recognize.

you are correct about that being the indian ocean and Somalia, but this HOGS name isn't Lopez. I know a Lopez from 1/9 but he was a motorman (not a sta marine) who was killed in Mogadishu. Reason I asked for people who know this Marine is he needs our help. If you know him you may want to contact me. If you know this war dog PM me.

ABSOLUTELY appreciate the offers for help. However Mitch (the sniper in the picture) has asked me to only divuldge this personal matter to the people he knows personally. I assure you he appreciates your requests to help as I do too. Again the thoughts are appreciated but not looking for any cash contributions.

Must have come in just after I got out as 1/9 is my former Bn and STA barracks were right next to mine, but I don't recognize him.

I wish the Marine the best. Wish I could help.

I was in 3/6 STA in Somalia, Jan. - Apr. '94...when was 1/9 there? Rode over on the USS Inchon.

I served with this HOG when I was in 1/9 and 2/1. I think that this was taken when he was with the 11th MEU. I'll PM with an inquiry as to how I can help.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Trying to gather some old pics of our platoon and for Mitch to enjoy. Got some cool pictures to foreward to him and talked to a few other snipers that were stationed with us over the years who are going to send some pics to keep spirits alive.
