I am going to fit a second hand .308 chambered barrel to a Remington action and want to set up the headspace. It most likely had an oversize recoil lug on its original rifle but I am not sure.
Can I screw the barrel into the action with bolt installed without the recoil lug in place. Then once the barrel hits the bolt lugs, measure the gap where the recoil lug should be, allow for clearance and get a suitable recoil lug made up to give me correct headspace? Assuming that the internal dimensions are close enough. (could use a dummy bullet to check)
Anyone sell custom thickness recoil lugs or or do I need to make one?
