I'll be using my HK MR762 mostly to bang steel out at around 800 yards max. Please recommend commercially loaded brass ammo that will get the job done and won't break my bank account. When I want to be more precise, of course, I'll go the match grade route, but for glorified plinking like this...what would you recommend? I do not want to run cheap steel case through my HK MR762, so ... what would be my options and what would you recommend?

Here are the barrel specs on the MR762:

4 lands & grooves, right-hand twist, 1 in 12 in.

Thanks.

Palmetto State armory has been running some sales on federal gold medal match with a 168smk for $16 per 20rds. Sign up for their emails and wait.

You want to shoot out to 800 yards and "bang steel" using crap ammo? You are going to be hard pressed to find a better deal than what Z7 posted above, so you jump on his shit for trying to help? Class move.

I am getting tired of seeing your ignorant and disrespectful posts here. Why don't you slink back to Arf dot com where you'll be be among folks just like you. Either that or learn to appreciate the information you can get here from people that keep on trying to help you out despite the fact that you've shown yourself to be a dolt and don't appreciate true help when it is offered.

So the only decent commercially loaded brass case ammo capable of banging steel out at 800 yards is going to run 80 cents a round? I was looking for something other than this...military surplus, etc.

I shot a lot of Radway Green and Hirtenburger 147 grain ball out of a early and well built DSA FN-Fal. Even back then it wasn't a lot cheaper than 65-75 cents a round unless you bought a lot. Good military surplus, but beyond 400 yards, it would have to be a BIG piece of steel.

Personally I think you'd be crazy to pass on the sale prices of FGMM. And if ya reload that's an even bigger reason. You're gonna end up wanting decent rounds at some time and to buy crap and/or crap that can't be reloaded and just toss rounds down range to toss'm doesn't make any sense to 'me'. Take advantage of your time in the filed and shoot and practice like ya mean it. But that's just me. Wanna go cheap and get a bunch of trigger time? 5.56/.223 and steel cases.............

This is solid advice ^^^

Yup, upon further reflection I grabbed a few hundred rounds of it. I can sell the brass to the reloaders and get my price per round count down that way. :)
