I finally have some time to fire my GAP M40A3 full USMC spec rifle. I haven’t mounted the S&B scope yet. Before I mount he scope I want to break the rifle in using the procedure that GAP suggests on their website. (I know there is a lot of debate about breaking in a new rifle but I have decided to use GAP's suggestion, I have Bore Tech brand and Mike Lucas equipment and solvents for this procedure).
Here are my questions:
1. I plan on using Fed Gold Med 175gr exclusively. However I do have a few boxes of the Fed Gold Med 168 grain. I am planning on using the 168 grain for the break in procedure. Does anyone see a problem with this? (Should I use 175 even for the break in? I’m thinking economy here).
2. I still haven’t decided on what data book I will be using and am currently researching this topic to find the best company. I do plan on purchasing the KAC Bullet Flight ballistic app. for the iPhone but I will also be using paper. In the mean time I would like to create a serious and thorough record of each shot I make for the break in process minus the scope being mounted. What data should I record for each one of these break in shots and is there any recommended book or format I should use to record the procedure?
I want to create a thorough record of data for this rifle from the get go.
Thanks
