Rifle Scopes Red Dot Opinion for a .22 Ruger 22/45

Ok I got a new play toy.. and I am needing a red dot for it.

I am looking for opinions and wanted you all to help out.

I need something that will hold up... but not something that will break the bank. Its just a plinker...and a pack gun..

EOTECH for sure. just kidding. I have no desire for a red dot on a pistol, but have seen a friend with a small Jpoint, Burris fast fire or RMR on his. I would look into those

In the $200ish range both the Burris Fastfire and JPoint are good picks for value and durability. I prefer the JPoint because it offers a both 4 and 7 MOA dot where as the Burris only offers a 4.

Stepping up to the $300 the CMore STS is a great choice.

$300 and above I like the Trijicon RMR Dual illumination as it requires no outside power source and is absolutely bulletproof. In this price range sits the new Leupold Deltapoint which I am running on my IPSC Open Pistol. There is nothing not to like about this RDS other than it is new so time will dictate its durability.

I have a Fastfire II on my 22/45 and it's been perfect. Holds zero and pretty quick to acquire.

I have a millet SP1 red dot on my 22/45 - works fine - hold zero - been on there for at least five years. I shoot it a LOT.

If it looks like a JPoint but is not labeled as such (meaning housing copy) then it is definitely a knockoff with the normal variance in quality of OK to POS.

Having been around for a while it tends to get copied quite a bit.

Vortex SPARC. The other MRD's are not waterproof if that is a consideration (unless you drop big $$ on an RMR).

Sure like my Aimpoint T-1$$$$, but the Trijicon dual ill RMR looks sweet. The Delta point looks very interestingas well. I have another optic with a triangle reticle and it is pinpoint accurate when using the tip of the triangle and fast to boot!

If it were me, I think I would be tempted to run a Leupy triangle delta point.

I'm running a Fastfire II on my Buckmark, and it performs really well. Very bright even in full sunlight, holds zero, and makes shooting so easy my wife calls it "cheating".

I started with an Ultradot on my Mark 3. A nice red dot but I didn't care for the extra weight and "tunnel vision" effect compared to the C-more on my open gun.

I swapped the Ultradot for a FastFire II using the rear sight dovetail mount and really like it. Nice open FOV, the dot is very bright and it's much lighter overall-- it really helped the balance & feel of the gun compared to the ultradot. It's been on there probably a year now and I haven't had any issues with it.

I looked at the normal aimpoints and eotechs. Its just the weight of them I wanted to stay away from.

I will look at the others and try and make a decision by the end of the week.

i picked up a burris fastfire 2 cause it was WAY cheaper than the rest and it has turned out to be a great little sight, I used in co-mounted on a bolt gun for a bit and now have it on a Glock 35 and works great. Its a good sight for a good value

May want to check out the Primary Arms micro green dot. I have one on my Ruger 22/45 and like it a lot for the money, plus the costumer service at Primary Arms is second to none <span style="font-weight: bold">IF</span> you should have a problem.

Although it is probably overkill, depending on your primary use for the weapon, the Aimpoint Micro R-1 is awesome on pistols...my son has one on his Open gun. It takes a few mags to get use to then the tube just disappears and the dot just floats there. Once you get use to looking at your target and not your dot, it will be wicked fast for you. The Ultra Dot is also a great option that I have used in the past...but the Aimpoint is a really chrisp dot and it is really rugged....no zero issues ever again....ever!

For what it is worth you can pick up a R-1 and paint it black for half the cost of a T-1 or H-1.... Check eBay for your best deal.

Not sure if you got something already, but I run a Burris Fastfire 2 on this and it's the tits!

I also have a fastfire 2 piggybacked on my AR and it's been rained on without issue. Good sight.

On a whim I bought one of the micro Bushnells that looks kind of like an Aimpoint T1/H1. I've gotta say that it's really surprised me with being pretty tough, surviving drops and such and the battery life has been good. At around $100 it's hard to beat. The downside is that the mount is not removeable, so you have to work with the permanent mount.

Mine's on top of my Ruger Mark II and it works quite well. The dot is on the smaller side, so shooting at smaller stuff is pretty easy. Unfortunately, I don't think that I have a pic of the rig. I do know that I like the rig so much that I removed the sights, filled the hole for the front sight and the dovetail for the rear sight with JB Weld and Duracoated the whole upper in Tactical Black. The setup is permanent now.

I use a Burris FF2 on my 22/45. It has been great and gets carried often catfishing, horse riding, coon hunting etc. and has held up very good. My only complaint is the dot is big for small targets...wish it was adjustable or smaller. I have found it to be plenty water resistant in rain and swamps....anything short of dunking it.

BTW, if you do find a sight that you like, but the dot is a little too big for fine shooting, you can always zero the sight so that the point of impact coincides with the very top of the dot. This way you have a finer aiming point, rather than trying to figure out whether you have that little target in the center of that huge dot.
